Hi ocir I run a i7 and a i5 Tower Systems the i7 is a good bit snappier then the i5 :)
If the i7 same price as i5 6600K, grab the i7 it performance much better than i5, 4 core plus 8 thread.
Hi,
I5 supports 4 threads actually but the I7 suggested here is from an older generation.
An I7 such as an I6700K combined with a decent socket 1151 board should outperform a 4790K hands down in several areas.

Cheers,
This was the question asked. An i5 has 4 cores with no Hyperthreading. The i7 has 4 cores with hyperthreading or 4 cores/ 8 Threads. The question is which one should he buy, the i7-4790K or the i5-6600K. The i5 is a generation newer but only has 4 cores/4 Threads. The i7 has 4 cores/8 threads and is a better performing CPU for what he wants to use it for. We all know there are better performing CPUs than either one of those. But the question the OP needs help with is which one of those 2 should he get.. Almost everyone in this thread agrees that the 4790K is a much better performer for his purposes, which he stated were Gaming, Photoshop and Lightroom.
Yes, the i5 6600k is newer, and if you look at this comparison, that's about it's only benefit. For gaming, I'd go with the I7 4790K.
