I was just showing how much slower the boot time is in W10 as opposed to W8.1. And from what I remember, the restart time for W7 fell somewhere between what I'm getting for 8.1 and 10.
Ten probably has a lot more background stuff to close and start than 7 or 8. Remember this is RE-start. A normal start for me is, after BIOS, the desktop shows almost instantaneously, and that's from a cold boot.

I was(only was) thinking of hooking my 840 Pro to the 1.5 SATA because I very rarely use the DVD(for ripping music as I have a Blu-Ray Home Cinema) and I could place the disk on top of it. But then I thought, naaaa leave it as a last chance reserve backup. Or I can re-image 8.1 back on and save that, naaaaa. I just wish I had one more SATA 6 plug... Oh well, I can wish in one hand and poo in the other, but I know which one will fill up faster:)
Your mobo is definitely bottlenecking your system. Maybe time for an upgrade. Is your system specs updated? I'll check.

Yes I agree. Most of the extra time it takes to restart W10 is when it shuts down. The difference between 10 and 8.1 from a cold boot is only a second or two.

I was trying to help someone in Malwarebytes forum with a loooong shut down time: Windows 10 takes extremely long time to hibernate/hybrid sleep

Hmmm, what do you think @badrobot? Should I go ahead and plug into the SATA 1 with the 840 Pro? I know my sequential read/write speeds will be capped by SATA 1 speeds (so about 130 -140MB/s) but I should still get full benefit of random read/write speeds and low latency of the SSD, and as I said earlier, I barely use the DVD player.

I personally don't use the hibernate/hybrid sleep feature in either 8.1 or 10. I have both installed on SSDs so that feature isn't a big help when it comes to boot times. When I shut down W8.1 it is almost instantaneous, while W10 takes a few seconds.

I have just recently turned it off too. Windows wasn't completing the FPR's(FilePendingRename) when going into hybrid sleep. It needs a complete shut down or a restart for this, or the system files won't get updated, and causes real system instability.

Yes you can. Or since you have unused PCIe x1 slots, you can just add more SATA ports to your mobo by adding a PCIe to SATA adapter like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Crest-Port-SAT...0_SR160%2C160_

or this one that also comes with external e-SATA port: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UJDLW14?psc=1

Thanks for the idea, I didn't know I could do that.

Supports Communication Speeds of 6.0Gbps, 3.0Gbps, and 1.5Gbps Supports 2 Ports Serial ATA, Native Command Queue (NCQ), Port Multiplier
And I would have full speed for my SSD!
