I would add an SSD to that.

I have a spare BX100 SSD I am putting in there. Thank you for the note though.

Here is the updated one showing the parts I already have.

    Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core, GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 Gaming, Z11 NEO ATX Mid Tower - System Build - PCPartPicker

What do you plan to use this computer for? A lot of times an i5 will be fine for the average user and an i7 is overkill.

I'm just thinking you may be able to save yourself a little money going with a i5-4460 or 4469K. :)

I am getting an i7 because of one bullcrap reason and a couple legit ones.

Bullcrap reason: I have always wanted an i7 so XD

1 legit reason: I will be doing a lot of video editing and rendering so the extra threads will help.
2: I will also be doing a lot of video gaming and would prefer to have extra threads

Ok, here's one I've been working on for a bit now. I'm not planning on upgrading to this anytime this anytime soon (current specs are listed below in 'My System Specs') but I do want to upgrade to something along these lines in the future. Maybe next year at this time.

    Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core, GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V, Node 202 HTPC w/450W Power Supply - Future Build - Chuck38s Saved Part List - PCPartPicker

    Sidenote:
You may be thinking, "This idiot forgot to put a PSU in his list!" That's because the Node 202 comes bundled with a Fractal Design Integra 450w PSU which I believe will work fine for me since I don't plan on overclocking and I've heard good things about it.

The purpose of this build and why I chose that parts I chose:
I plan to use this PC for some gaming, web browsing, and school work. I want a build that will last me at least six years without having to upgrade to much. I'd like to be able to use it in my last year of high school and then take it to college with me and use it throughout all four years.

I chose the i5-6500 because I don't plan on overclocking, so I saw no need to spend more money and get a 6600K. However, I do want something with a bit more power than a i3 or even a Pentium so the 6500 is the perfect CPU for me. It's Intel Skylake also which is as of now the latest series that Intel has to offer as of now.

To keep that CPU nice and cool I'm thinking I will get a Silverstone AR05. Obviously, I need a CPU cooler that is low profile but also be able to efficiently keep my CPU cool. I'm still a bit unsure as to whether go with the AR05 or the Noctua LH-L9i. If you have any thoughts on that please let me know what you think.

For my motherboard, this was a tough choice. I need a mini ITX because of the case restrictions but I also need everything on the board to be placed in a good spot AND I needed a M.2 slot. I picked this one though because of where the USB 3.0 is positioned. As we all know, that USB 3.0 wire is very stiff and can be a real pain in the rear. With this motherboard it's positioned on the right side of the board unlike other boards which have it in the center of the board kind of near the CPU. I like this because I think that if I get a board with the port in the center then it could get in the way of the CPU cooler. Either way, I like the USB wire to be out of the way and not have to worry about it at all.

Memory.... RAM is RAM, not to picky about it. I chose this set in particular though because I only need 8GB and I like Corsair and I like the way these sticks are designed.

And for storage! I'm really excited about this! I'm going to pair this 256GB M.2 2280 with my Crucial 240GB SSD. I'm gonna install my OS and other important applications that I run everyday on the M.2 and install games and lesser important things on the SSD. It should make this PC very, VERY fast!

As for the video card, this is still undecided. I threw in a GTX 970 in the list because it looked nice, but I was reading up on the new GTX 1060 that will be coming soon and that looks like it's going to be a very nice card! So, as for now I'm not sure which card I'll end up going with.

And the case! I'm tired of my big old Fractal Design Define R4 taking up so much space. Don't get me wrong, it's a great case and I love it, but it's just so dang big and there's no way I'm taking to college with me into one of those tiny dorm rooms. I've always liked mITX builds anyway and I think it'll be a very interesting case to build in.

Final Thoughts: So there you go! Keep in mind I don't plan on buying this anytime soon. For the time being the plan is to build this next year after I finish my Junior year of high school and have some more money to afford it. So parts will most likely change like the graphics card and maybe even the CPU. (Kaby Lake anyone?)

Anyway, let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions. :)

Oh, video editing! Yup, you'll need it then from what I've heard. My sister in law does video editing and she loves her i7. She runs a Mac though..... So yours is twice as better!

In that case it looks like a nice build to me. I've heard some different things about Asrock. Either you love em or you hate em from what I've seen. Personally I haven't really researched them. That one in particular has good reviews on Newegg though so it shouldn't be problem.

I was going to question the 16GB of RAM too, but if you are indeed doing video editing then your gonna want that. Heck, my sister in law was even thinking about upgrading to 32!!

Don't buy the GTX 1000 series yet because right now they're expensive. Wait till AMD release more new cards and hope NVIDIA will drop the price of GTX 1070. Right now the GTX 1070 already worth half of your $1000 budget which is not good.
