Well in overclock settings you should have to override auto for the turbo boost, if not you could always turn the turbo core down to base clock speed.
I had the 970 so the bios looks identicle & should be easy to adjust unless you have the command center installed over-riding the bios settings ?
Thats also one of the settings that is greyed out on mine unfortunately. Its set to Auto on Turbo boost and it greyed out so i cannot change it.

As for the command centre, yeah i do have it installed. Is that a problem? If so, i relly dont mind uninstalling it. I usually go straight to BIOS anyway for setting changes. And the OC genie is of new use seen as it doesnt support CPU's above 200Watt.

Also, just realised i made a mistake, its the MSI 990FXA Gaming motherboard, not 970. Didnt realise until you named it in your last message... my bad :S

No I said I had an MSI 970 Gaming Mobo which has the same bios layout.

I say uninstall command center then restart pc & your settings should now be usable again because Command Center Software was in control.

If this has not worked try a cmos reset & then set all default settings as this is my last suggestion at this point !

I have found & many others that software controlling the bios is a bad thing as a lot of things can go wrong, so it is always best to stick to the simple bios screen for best results.

Ahhh i see, i thought i had made the mistake for a min, sorry.

Thanks for all your help. I will test this out tomorrow morning and let you know the results. Nice to know about the command centre applications too. Never had a Mobo with a command centre application before so I didnt know any better until now. I will keep this in mind in the future .

Fingers crossed and thansk again .

Only thing is no I have had a think about this Mobo you have at MSI it states a warning for the 9590 chip & you say OC Genie does not work for that chip I have a feeling that the Mobo has blocked overclocking or adjustment on that chip as the VRM's will overheat if you try to push anymore out of the 9590 this will avoid the Mobo from exploding with that chip I think.

If this is what you find after removing software / reset cmos I do not think you can do anymore, you would have to change the Motherboard for a more powerfull one like myne to overclock.

I think you're exactly right. It says the Mobo supports the chip, but does say that OC genie will not support CPU's over 200W. I uninstalled command centre and rebooted ect. Checked settings in Bios and they are all still greyed out, so you might be right in saying that they have blocked/ disabled most overclocking features so that it cannot blow the Mobo.

I should have done a little more research seen as i only bought this processor and Mobo at Christmas. Live and learn i guess . Is yours the one stated in your 'specs' list? the GA 990FX?

If you purchased the mobo at xmas you could get a refund on it ? stating - not fit for intended purpose & change to another board.

Yes my mobo is the Gigabyte 990FX Gaming which is 130 new uk about the same price as yours - I had a 9590 on that & I remember adjusting the Turbo Boost on that & that board has no warning about the TDP ect for that chip, but I went back to another CPU as thought the heat was not worth the danger level for me when I only had air cooling last year.

WIll take a look then . And thats an good idea actually, might order the Gigabyte Mobo and then return this one then.
And i know what you mean about the temperatures, I had the fx 8350 before and that used to get up high temperature but couldnt fit any more fans in the old tower,so did my research on the CPU and bought a new, bigger tower (the Thermaltake Overseer) so that i could get enough fans in there. Did a stress test a few days ago and left it for around 20 mins, temps hit about 62 degrees celcius on the CPU, so thought that wasn't too bad seen as it will never be running at 100% consistently. When im gaming it tends to sit around 50 degrees celcius. I've been looking at the Corsair CW H100i V2 Liquid CPU cooler, but I have no way of comparing if this will actually be better or worse than my Coolermaster Hyper Evo 412S with 2 120mm fans, so I would have to buy it and test it I guess :/.

I would get a 3 fan cooler unit myself (well have already but myne but is kit build stuff - more pounds) because if you think about it the 9590 is the wattage of 2 CPU's then you are supposed to add a fan (core) so 360mm rad with high pressure fans.

Thin you can get ready built ones ?

    This is just an example: Alphacool NexXxoS Cool Answer 360 LT/ST - kit LN57679 - 11060 - Scan.co.uk

Here is the type your looking for : DEEPCOOL CAPTAIN360 EX Visible Liquid Cooling Water Cooler Liquid Cooler Red LED Light 360mm Radiator Quiet Fan: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Thermaltake RGB Fan 360 mm Water Cooling System CPU Cooler with Radiator - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
