I recently purchased this refurbished Dell Optiplex 790 desktop. It was made in 2011. The idle CPU temps were around 55C to 60C. I took off the cooling fan and found the thermal paste totally dried out. Cleaned off all of the old dried thermal compound and re-applied new thermal paste and re-attached the CPU fan and temps dropped 20C to 25C. Now idle temps are 35C to 40C. If you are experiencing high idle CPU temps, check your thermal paste.

    Validated?

Has Speccy been validated to make sure it indicates the correct temperatures? If so, where is this validation documented?
