    I want a Ram-Disk . ( I need advice ) .

    I need Ram-Disk advice .

( I posted to 3 categories, was not sure , since I'm not familiar with Ram-Disk set up ) .

My system specs are below. I guess the available ram is whats needed ? 8 GB total, 7 usable .

I want to try two things :

    1. Set up my Browsers, Chrome and Edge, to save their browsing files to the Ram Disk .

    2. Run my Drawing application on the Ram-disk so that its lag free. It always slows down when drawing lines and painting .

I'll post links to Ram-Disk makers I'd like to try for this :

    A. Ram-disk, by Dataram. OEM server memory upgrades. Dell, HP, IBM, Sun, Oracle, Windows, SQL Server Memory - Dataram

    B. Ram-disk plus - Microsoft Certified RamDisk Solutions

Im getting closer. I found a video for how to do the first thing with Google chrome. My temp files are saved to the ram disk drive. Still monitoring how it works.

I haven't kept up with using a ramdisk but back in the MS-DOS 5-6.22, floppy disks and small-capacity HDD days I would create a ramdisk large enough to hold the contents of several floppy disks, somewhere around 6MB [Yes, that's MegaBytes] and copy the floppy's contents for managing then copying the remainder back to floppies. The computer had 16MB RAM. Worked pretty good until the computer would lock up, power failure hit, etc. The rebooting would cause loss of everything in the ramdisk so it became pretty obvious that a battery backup/UPS was required. As what some of the references say, the ramdisk is quite fast.

    Hi there
If you need that type of stuff why not simply use an SSD - These are plenty fast enough these days. !!!
