Quick question on a possible CPU upgrade..

Right now I have a AMD A4-4000 APU installed on my PC and it's not that bad. But I was thinking of upgrading it to an AMD A8-6500 Quad Core(3.5Htz).. or possibly a A6-6420K.

Any thoughts if this would be worth the money to upgrade or would it not matter that much in the long run.

    TIA

Well, as you can see from this comparison:

    AMD A4-4000 vs A8-6500

They have a lot of similar characterstics. The A8 is faster, but more expensive. The A4 gives you more bang for the buck though.

They both suck power and generate a lot of heat. The GPU is better in the A8. Overall performance is about 1.5x faster, although you could maybe tweak that by using a little faster memory as the A8 supports DDR-1866.

The A6-6420 is quite a bit less of a difference:

    AMD A4-4000 vs A6-6420K

Only about 1.27x faster, Same power and heat characteristics...

I never understand why people want to keep using these ancient processors that kick out so much heat and use so much power for so little performance....

All of those only use 65W... how is that a lot of power??

I said a lot of power for the performance you get.

More modern processors either have lower power consumption, or much better performance per watt (meaning they may be higher than 65W but they perform many times better).

My mother board supports an FM2 AMD and the best that I found that uses the same wattage as my current is the A8-6500.

Get an A10 xxxx, OC it and you'll be able to get rid of 210 GPU, will be enough power for anything. OCing an APU and using faster RAM can increase performance a lot, both for graphics and CPU.

Well, I finally decided to get the following: A10-6800K!
    AMD A10-6800K Richland 4.1GHz (4.4GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 100W Quad-Core Desktop Processor - Black Edition AMD Radeon HD 8670D - Newegg.com

And this: ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2, CPU Cooler - Intel & AMD, Multi-Directional Mount, 92mm PWM Fan
    ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 with 92mm PWM Fan - Newegg.com

All of it I can get next month(March) and it's right within my budget!

    Thanks for the tip

All right, better graphics than that 210, also 4 real cores. If you want to get better GPU performance you can always go to faster RAM (DDR3- 2133 MHz.) which helps graphics a lot.
