Custom laptop - transferring user & progs in a few hours with Laplink

How do you transfer 300+ programs, most settings, and years of POP3 emails from a 6 year old laptop to a new one in a few hours (half of which is processing time)?

Hi, I've been very pleased with the results of using Laplink PCMover Image Assistant.

After about 3 hours processing, I had most programs and related data up and running on my new Win 10 PC. A relief, 'cos my old one kept switching off erratically. How?

    1. Use a disk imaging program on my old PC to image C: (mostly my OS) and D: (where I install programs).
    2. Create D: on new PC.
    3. Image E: on my old PC (Program-related data) and restore to E: on my new PC.
    4. Mount C: and D: on my new PC using the disk imaging program
    5. Run Laplink PCMover Image Assistant on my new PC
    6. Select what I want transferred, note things that are not compatible or cannot be transferred.
    7. Let it run. Watch TV, drink coffee, phone a friend, ask the audience...
    8. Laplink takes care of installing Visual C++ run times and .NET framework as appropriate.
    9. Check things...
    10. Configure a few remaining settings, install new AV.

Everything so far is near perfect. Iconised folders, Classic Shell start menu, Pop3 email clients (I use two, Poppeeper and Thunderbird) operational with all settings, rules, emails etc.

Oh, and it didn't break Win 10... which has to be saying sthg.
