I honestly thought when building a PC, you'd need like 200 screws. But a lot of people have said you only need 20-30 tops. A lot of the components have their own wiring and own socket in the PSU.

Kicking myself now at how tentative i have been for last decade to get into it.
That's pretty close. I recently changed a case to get more room inside and didn't need quite that many screws, probably about 18. Many cases are made now that one side panel doesn't come off so fewer screws are needed for holding drives in the bays such as CD/DVD, floppy drive [if used], card readers, etc.

I have a Cooler Master HAF-X so both sites unscrew. I think its ideal for me as i can easily follow the wiring. Supposed to be a very good case too

When building a new pc, you should not need any more screws than those which are supplied with the components.

Many thanks guys. Just wondered if it is easy to grasp but apparently the motherboard slots are pretty universal in length etc and its just fitting pieces in like a jigsaw.

Haha. I've been asked to look at a few Youtube tutorials as they are pretty self explanatory on the subject. Bit worried thought i'll have entirely different components with different connectors etc

Manuals for all the parts are more important. Even after many, many years and hundreds of PCs put together, I still download and read manuals even before I get a part, if nothing it gives me better picture of it's capabilities than shiny advertising which never lists any downfalls of said part.

Most of the connectors were developed for different electronics, not necessarily just for PCs. Makers like Amphenol and Molex usually set standards. Power connectors for instance are made so they can't be mixed up, plastic insulation is keyed so they fit only one way only in certain plugs.

Questions are not stupid, not asking them is stupid. However, some questions may appear to others to be dumb but we all have to learn.

I retired in late '94 and a week later started work in a computer store, "part time for the holidays" she said. Five months later I was allowed to leave after training her new electronic technician after training him to assemble computers and install the software, seems the trade school hadn't started on computers yet. Then I moved to a small town and I was back into fixing computers.
