Cheers Mike. Is there a particular component that is tricky to install? I've always had it in my mind the processor is hard as don't you need to use thermal paste etx?
On Intel systems processor can be a bit tricky because of minuscule pins in the socket that can be bent easily. Trick is to line processor perfectly in the socket and drop it gently making sure edges are set all around before closing leaver. Some coolers or processors come with TIM paste already applied, all you have to do is to remove protection. If paste is not applied you just put a drop of paste size a bit bigger than grain of rice in the middle and let cooler squeeze it flat.
RAM sticks are keyed so the go in only one way and push in so latches catch in the groves on sides.
PCIe slots are pretty stiff, have to push pretty hard and straight.
SATA connectors are keyed to and easy to plug in.
Never realised how easy it is kr hopefully is. I honestly thought it is something that takes years to master. I have a Cooler Master HAF X which is supposedly a great case and it comes with rovsble bays for SSDs. I believe you just slide them in with no mounting. It's things like that I'm worried about as one wrong move I thought you could potentially destroy the system. Plus I had no idea the power supply has connectors and wires integrated into it. Such an idiot for thinking it was difficult!
Thanks Mike. As long as the connectors are the same and wiring etc hopefully I should be OK!
Many thanks. I have a few wires very short in length left over from my current build. I imagine they must be spare parts or something
Got my hands on a HP Compaq Presario SR1000 today. Been practising removing RAM, HD, Optical Drive and graphics card.
Graphics card was a bit tough as there was no screws it was like a metal sheet/grate that slid into the back of the chassis so you had to slot the card in while maneouvering the metal bit at the back to slot into place!
I've been trying to find the form factor (think thats right term?) for the Mobo so i can buy a newer board and do a fresh build inside the case.
