I don't need or use XMP as I have Memory Try it(special to MSI's Click BIOS) which has different memory settings for different controllers, as you see Corsair Vengeance use Samsung controller.
Memory try it: Why Memory-Try-It will boost your gaming rig | MSI Global
You may need to use XMP, set that first, THEN adjust your base clock and voltages.
XMP sets not only your RAM speed, and timings, but also will make changes to BCLK too., and; I#m not sure now, but maybe your ratio mode too.
I have not seen XMP make changes to the bclk or ratio.
But changing the bclk will definately change the ram speed.
It has on my board, it changes BCLK from 100.500 to 100.000 every time.
But I think XMP is just a "safe" overclock on my PC MATE.
The Memory Try It! setting is the exact same setting as XMP, but leaves the other settings alone, end with BCLK set to 100.500, it ramps up from 3000MHz to 3015MHz.
I tried 3200MHz, but either cannot boot into Windows, or when it can, Hyper-V hates it, and will not open a VM, as VMs run mostly in memory But the rest of my system will run ok.
Ok guys looks like I am going to stay at x47 .....tried for last 2+ hours at x48 Could boot into windows, but when I ran the XTU stress test, failed every time. @47 it passes every time. Going to give up. Got Sammy mad at me early this morning, almost was late giving her breakfast LoL Nothing worse than a mad Doberman puppy. :)
