It is important for you to know that having a 64-bit operating system and more than 4GB RAM won't automatically make your computer run faster. After you do the upgrade:
    • A single program designed for 32-bit Windows will run about the same as before
    • A single program designed for 64-bit Windows will be able to handle larger amounts of data such as images and videos. A similar 32-bit program will struggle to handle these large amounts of data or might even crash.
    • Having more RAM will allow you to have more programs open at one time
    • Having more RAM will allow you to have more tabs open at one time on your browser

That is what I found out.

The biggest thing I did to make my older computers run faster was to replace the hard drives with SSDs. I had stopped using these computers because they seemed so slow. The SSDs breathed new life into them. With the SSDs they not only booted faster but were more responsive at the desktop.

BTW, I have seen some people want to automatically put NVME M.2 SSDs on old computers. I found out that 2.5-inch SATA SSDs are plenty fast enough for older computers.

64 bit has more registers so it is better for performance they are also better at multitasking and there is several factors in turn which means better speed and performance its layered you won't reap the full benefits of that performance with 32 bit OS.

Last time a 32 bit OS made sense was in late 90s early 2000 or if you are actually running on a 32bit CPU which is around that time also.

Outside of that 3rd gen is still pretty fast just not as such on this board if it had at least gen 3 which is what 2.5 inch SSD are made for then it would be reasonable.

The burst rate for Sata is effectively chopped in half for gen 2 though which is a generalization but it will effect speed at some point., and burst rate is only theoretically maximum throughput which is factored by other metrics.

The example above makes sense because its a gen 3 platform yes a SSD will be a lot faster on that computer because it can run that speed for the SSD. I would expect gen 2 to get close to those speeds. AM3 is still fast if you overclock them they can do 4ghz easy.

Same with the computer in question it can do 4ghz no problem. With these older computers this is where the real boost is. They feel pretty sluggish before 3.8ghz
