It is important for you to know that having a 64-bit operating system and more than 4GB RAM won't automatically make your computer run faster. After you do the upgrade:
- A single program designed for 32-bit Windows will run about the same as before
- A single program designed for 64-bit Windows will be able to handle larger amounts of data such as images and videos. A similar 32-bit program will struggle to handle these large amounts of data or might even crash.
- Having more RAM will allow you to have more programs open at one time
- Having more RAM will allow you to have more tabs open at one time on your browser
That is what I found out.
The biggest thing I did to make my older computers run faster was to replace the hard drives with SSDs. I had stopped using these computers because they seemed so slow. The SSDs breathed new life into them. With the SSDs they not only booted faster but were more responsive at the desktop.
BTW, I have seen some people want to automatically put NVME M.2 SSDs on old computers. I found out that 2.5-inch SATA SSDs are plenty fast enough for older computers.
