    Building a new computer

I'm going to help my son build a new comfuser.

Is there a site where I can type in which games & programs he wants to play & use to get a list of compatible motherboards, CPUs & GPUs?
I'm hoping to find some good deals this Cyber Monday.

Just a thought.. think 'future-proof' (well, reasonably..) i.e. don't limit yourself to the minimum requirements.

And allow for whatever external medium you're going to use for disk imaging- so it's not too hard to 'fix' when he suddenly can't play his favourite game...

Consider too how you are going to secure it when you configure it.. a child account perhaps?

You will not go wrong using this
Great Intel Gaming Build - PCPartPicker

The main component for gaming is the graphic card and of course a monitor capable of 4K resolution

You can use that link to explore the various parts and for games particularly regarding the gpu

You should aim for 32GB ram
    There are many other considerations

    Case
    Cooling
    Intel or AMD processor
PSU - buy high quality and preferably Platinum spec

Hope you do not mind me asking, but do you have experience of building a system

Here are a couple of websites that will tell you if your chosen hardware will run certain games:

What Can I Run . System Requirements Test - PCGameBenchmark

Can You RUN It | Can I Run It | Can My PC Run It

I am a little leery of having a website "check" my PC for compatibility, so I'm not really sure I advise the second link as much as the first one, but you do what is best for you. I have used the first one by entering my parameters and not using the "system check".

My suggestion is to use the first link and enter your proposed processor and graphics card, and do it that way.

    Just be careful.

Thanks for the website links, I'll check them out.

Here's a small list of what he wants & needs on the comfuser:
    Minecraft
    Minecraft: Java Edition
    Subnautica
    Subnautica: Below Zero
    DOOM (2016)
    DOOM Eternal
    Microsoft Office (we have 2007)
    IrfanView
    VLC
    WinRAR
    Adobe Photoshop (we have v7.0)
    Revo Uninstaller Pro

I know Doom Eternal probably has the highest Recommended Requirements, besides Windows itself (Motherboard-wise).

He'll be running Windows 10 Pro.
I've helped friends in the past with previous builds, but not on my own.
He'll be running his own Local Standard Account. He's Autistic & I'll be helping him when he needs.

These are the parts I'm leaning towards:
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
Mobo: ASUS Prime B450M-K or MSI B450M Pro-M2 MAX
    Memory: G.Skill Aegis 8GB or Patriot Viper 4 8GB
    PSU: Corsair TXM Gold 550W

Unfortunately, price is an issue; but I think these should be good for his 1st build.
I already have a HDD he is going to use, a DVD-RW (if he wants) & I'll let him pick-out the case.
I'm just stuck on the video card. He doesn't need top of the line, but something that will last awhile.

I would start with your budget then build the best performance / price system for your budget. For gaming you first need to carefully consider how much to spend on the GPU and then use what's left of the budget for the CPU, motherboard etc.

There is a full review here of the PSU

It is OK but on the lower limit -

    Check here for Doom Eternal
    Bethesda Support

    I would recommend 16GB ram
and check PSU needed perhaps on here

when of course you have chosen the graphics
