Ordered my first M.2 drive and looking for setup advice

I've decided on a minor upgrade for my aging gaming rig that's almost six years old. It's based on an Asus Maximus IX Hero mobo with an i7-7700K 4.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor, 16GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and an Asus ROG-STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-11GBPS GPU. It still runs most games that I want to play just fine at 1440P with excellent quality settings, even if they're not Ultra in some games. I have noticed a few games that I'm starting to struggle with a slight bit so I'm thinking of building a new rig next summer or fall.

I have a Samsung 850 Evo 500 GB Sata III as my main OS drive, and an Adata SU630 960GB Sata III drive as my game drive. I've just ordered a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB. This will be my first M.2 drive. I'm going to redo my computer with this as my main drive. I'm looking for opinions on whether or not I should partition this drive. Historically, I've always liked to keep my OS drive separate, whether by keeping it as a completely separate physical drive or by partitioning. I haven't partitioned any drives since my HD days though, and I'm not sure if there are good reasons not to do this with an SSD. What do you guys think of partitioning the 970 EVO as a 500GB OS drive and a 1.5TB game drive?

Weather or not to partition often comes down to a matter of preference. You noted that you like to possibly have a separate partition for gaming when using a HDD. I would typically setup an SSD in exactly the same way as a HDD, the biggest difference being simply that it will be far faster!
