You could check in bios under ai teaker that memory support is set to auto. I doubt it is necessary. I have had at least 4 lga 1155 mobos and none of them needed bios fiddling for ram.
Some of them need a bios upgrade to suport 3rd gen cpu, but that is not the case here because the op was already running a 3rd gen cpu ( i3-3240t )and then went backwards to a 2nd gen cpu ( i5-2500 ).

Yes. The s at the end indicates lower power consumption. You also get pcie 3 support with those quad core i5 3rd gen cpus.
It should perform pretty well with a decent 3rd gen s cpu. There are a couple of usb3 ports ( light blue ) and a couple of 6gb sata ports ( dark blue ) for sata ssd.
