Malneb, I do appreciate your input but I am not sure what you are saying, as I said I know you are right in regards to the system being old, and EOL but it's all I can afford at present... Having had to beg for bits and pieces to put this together, sadly beggars cant be choosers.

Thank you Marie SWE, for your suggestions I will give them a try tomorrow, and report back.
I am agreeing with you basically.

Also if you find you cannot get this CPU to work and need to get a replacement then if you can get one of these cheap
then it would be the best you can put in there.

    - E3-1230 v2
    - E3-1245 v2

The second one is the better of the two but they are both very similar. You could get to 4ghz easy which is still very fast in 2023

This may be just a typo i think but don't do this when the PC is on.

in this case it most likely would not matter anyway but its just bad practice to remove components while the computer is running.

Yeah and especially if you dropped it in a way where it completed a short circuit or bridge something to something else.

Maleb, again I very much appreciate your help.

I checked out the CPU's you suggested but sadly, they are out of my price range

    - E3-1230 v2 Cheapest on eBay £20.00
    - E3-1245 v2 Cheapest on eBay £44.00 this is more than I paid to put together my whole system.

Such a used CPU of that age has no monetary value.
    i5-2400 is £3 at cex.

I used to have an asus h61 mobo. I would have suggested a 3rd gen quad core i5 for that board, they are a bit more expensive at about £5 for the i5-3470s

just noticed they have an 15-3550s ( which is marginally better than the i5-3470s ) also for £5.

    Intel Core i5-3550S @ 3.00GHz vs Intel Core i5-3470S @ 2.90GHz [cpubenchmark.net] by PassMark Software

It is noticably better than the i5-2500 and lower power consumption.

Thank you SWI2 for the info, I have purchased the 15-3550s, will let you all know the outcome once it arrives.

And thanks to everyone else as well.

I won't mark as solved until I get the new CPU and see what happens

Up date, CPU has got lost in the post (RM) and vendor does not have a replacement... Have to wait until RM does investigation for refund, so I am going to see what's about, so I can purchase a replacement.

You didn't say how fast your RAM is. The new CPU does not support as fast RAM as the old one.

    Intel Core i3-3240T DDR3 1333/1600
    Intel Core i5-2500 DDR3 1066/1333

If your RAM is 1600 then set it to a lower speed in the BIOS.

Hopefully you get reimbursed, assuming you bought that cex one then you should assuming they are legitimate i have seen some computer builders on youtube that use them all the time so they must be somewhat reliable.
