With "1" stick you can put that in any channel otherwise you 2 sticks of ram as shown on diagram, or 4 sticks of matched ram (X4 Kit), so you have 2 dual channels working

Just google CPU-Z & you will find the site to get it from.

The great thing about all this is I'm learning a bit more about how to build PC's - I'm hoping at some point soon to upgrade my old Lenovo (the one with the hamster wheel) with a new motherboard and using the 8GB RAM stick I just took out

Am I right in saying that doubling the bandwidth through Dual RAM in this instance will be more than compensating for the reduced speed setting?

From what I can see so far gaming performance seems better - I think the textures are more pleasing and approaching and landing on planets in Elite Dangerous seems more seamless (whereas before it was patchy and all horrible edges and stuff as the features of the planet became closer and bigger)

I've got some design work to do so I'll probably just sit on it the way it is for now and maybe in the near future look into tinkering under the hood - after some more research

When you do decide to XMP the ram the go to 2666 or 2999mhz, you will see that antiliasing has been improved, although 2666mhz is supposed to be a sweet spot for the CPU's calculations, I found this out with another thread on this site, they did prime numbers to a million calc & for my PC it was quickest at 2666mhz?
