    SFF Builds

    Good Day All

Just hoping someone has attempted building a z690 in a sub 7L case
for me I'm looking at a Velka 3,5 or 7 type case but have not seen any, any clearances' info for cpu coolers in regards to the MB, CPU and RAM on any DDR 4 or 5 set up

i see older AMD stuff but nothing with a Z690 Mini-ITX Air cooled

    Many Thanks for all info

Also... you don't really have to build your own mini PCs unless you want to, these days.

    Good Day All

I do realize I can get off the shelf stuff but while I'm out at sea and it seems like a good thing to putter with.
the only down side is I wont be able to get my system online until we get into port I can get online with ship equipment but not my own equipment (It can be quite painful at times) for updates-patches and such.

Still leaning on the Velka 5 or 7 now, not enough cooling headroom on the 3

and for the power supply, thinking of doing the separate power brick type and making a revers top hat on the bottom (not attached) just a low box. to save on cooling and noise.

below is the shopping list so far minus case and PS

Intel Core i7-12700K 3.6 GHz 12-Core ProcessorNoctua NH-L9i-17xx chromax.black 33.84 CFM CPU CoolerASRock Z690 Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB4 Mini ITX LGA1700 MotherboardCorsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5200 CL40 Memory will look at getting better CL Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive

Not in a rush at the moment for a GPU I see prices are still freefalling

I think I seen that recently, I just want to put together my own. in the days of win 98 I built a mid tower computer and I timed the build with a six pack of beer it took longer to load the floppies than the actual machine build.

I just want to do the build for me.

Well... start by picking a case.

Once you find the case you like... look it up on the manufacturer's website for the details on... what will FIT inside it.

    Hi,

The only thing I would say, It's maybe not a good idea to use a 125W TDP CPU with a 65W TDP Cooler... With only a few millimetres clearance for the air flow, you risk having a very hot computer, with a CPU that cannot reach it's full potential.

The Noctua NH-D15 is more suited for that CPU. But It wont fit there. I think going with a CPU with a lower TDP makes more sense in that little case.

Maybe someone with experience doing that could comment further, as never did.

I was recently questioned by a client about using an SFF computer for gaming, it centered around adding a video card. The case is the same size as a Dell I have rehabbed and there are limited choices of add-in cards that are the low-profile type that will fit. The USFF are even smaller. My latest Desktop with Win11 is a larger case and doesn't have a VGA port so am using a DisplayPort to VGA adapter for connecting to my 4-computer KVM switch. Just some thoughts to consider.

I Can't say anything about the Dell problem Mr. Berton

I have adjusted my dream list to I7-12700 (65w) so with that all should be good and will use the iGPU of the cpu (for a while only) plan on over doing the PSU and the MB for improvement later on but I still want a durable case velka 7 with sfx psu seems doable and there is some room for fans, gpu is the major trip for later.

    They died. Try Zacks

Zack Electronics - Audio, Video, Wire, Components, Cable, Connectors & Datacom Professionals

They probably won't have what you're after either.

    There's Microcenter

And mostly... there's PCpartpicker. Pick parts. Build your PC. Compare and share. - PCPartPicker

This case is in the top link I gave you in post #6, for example...
