i have a question about the consequences of an electric short circuit
i recently bought a new ups and i connected it to my nas by using a usb wire. it worked for 6 hours and then the nas lost connection to the ups. i removed the usb wire of the ups from the nas and i connected an external hard disk to the usb port of the nas. the external hard disk wasn't detected. i had to restart the nas so that the usb port of the nas detected the external hard disk when i connected it to the usb port. i connected the ups to the laptop by using different usb wires. the laptop didnt detect the ups
the usb port in the ups is definitely dead. i will return the ups to the shop that i bought it from. there is a chance that a short circuit happened in the usb port of the ups and the usb port of the nas detected the short circuit and it got disabled to protect the nas. that would explain why the usb port of the nas wouldnt detect the external hard disk and i had to restart the nas so that the usb port detected the external hard disk. i will return the ups and get a new one
i am considering putting a mini usb hub in between the new ups and the nas. i connect the usb hub to the nas and i connect the ups to the usb hub
assume that a short circuit happened in the usb port of the ups. what will happen if there is a usb hub in between the ups and the nas? will the usb port of the nas still detect that short circuit or no and the usb hub has to detect it? assume that the short circuit messed up the usb port of the usb hub. is that the only damage and the usb port of the nas is safe?
