    Upgrading Ram Question

Got a HyperX Fury DDR4 8gb Ram stick in my HP Omen 25L Desktop and I want to upgrade the RAM.

There is an extra slot so I can add another 8GB there - or maybe 16GB?

I'm trying to figure out exactly what card I have at the moment - Task Manager says it's a 2666MHz one and they probably come in faster than that now..

Does it make much difference what additional RAM card I put in, ie. differences in memory or speed or whatever?

What's my best option(s) here anyone?

Also, do I just plug the thing in (while turned off of course) and the system will detect it? I've upgraded RAM on laptops before and that's what I did - I just want to check that it's not bad practise or whatever and maybe there is something else I should do..

    @STU9000

Best to take the 8GB out and get the model number printed on the RAM stick.
Then IF the motherboard can take another 8GB, get the exact same make and model, 8GB RAM stick.

An easier way to get the RAM model number, would be CPU-Z (free)
CPU-Z | Softwares | CPUID <---- the .zip version is the portable version.

Or you could find your exact computer model here, and it will list compatible RAM upgrades.

Never keen on third party software these days. Easy enough to take the thing out and have a look - I can see some numbers on the inside but a search isn't throwing anything up so not sure if they are serial numbers or what.

You can also try the other methods I listed above.
Sorry.. but I type very slowly.

It looks like the Kingston HyperX RAM model numbers start with HX....
On all the RAM I've used... they put the model number on the side you CAN'T see.
I have no idea, why they do that.

Btw, CPU-Z is a very small, clean safe program. It's very well known.
The portable version, needs no install either.

    PN: L75922-H72
    Hyperx Fury, UDIMM 8GB DDR4-3200 CL18.
Looks like amazon has one for $60, and walmart will sell you 2 for $70

I don't show (PN: L75922-H72) on Amazon or ANY normal retailers.
In fact, I don't see that PN at Kingston, either.

    I see this...

    Kingston HyperX Fury 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL18 Memory (HX432C18FB2/8) - PCPartPicker

This is why CPU-Z is such a valuable program. It will tell us the exact model of your RAM, your motherboard... etc.

I ran with the Product number on the RAM in the pic he sent, just to see what specifics we could get. I agree, I would prefer using the number you presented (HX432C18FB2/8).
In which case, I find the 8GB chip on newegg for $59.63, or a listing for 2 of the 8GB chips for $107.40.

Found this, just now... check the 3rd post...

    https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming...n/td-p/7956477

I also searched on PCpartpicker for all Kingston RAM, 1x8GB, cas 18, 2666Mhz and up...

    Choose Memory - PCPartPicker

There's three ways to be sure... HP, or CPU-Z, or Crucial (if you know the exact computer model number.

On HP they will ask for the exact computer model or the SSID number, and then will tell you what your upgrade options are.

With CPU-Z we can skip ahead, with the motherboard and/or RAM exact model numbers.

With Crucial, which does this for all computers... you can click on the exact model of your computer, and it will tell you what RAM is tested compatible with your computer.
But there are two pages of HP Omen 25L computers... here's just a sample...

I just went to the Crucial site, and randomly clicked on about 10 different HP Omen 25L computer models, spread over the two pages...

ALL of the ones I clicked on list (among others), these two options for RAM upgrade...
They also list value RAM (no heatsinks), but I skipped over those.

    Crucial Ballistix RGB 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3600 Desktop Gaming Memory (Black) | BL2K8G36C16U4BL | Crucial.com

    Crucial Ballistix 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Desktop Gaming Memory (Black) | BL2K16G32C16U4B | Crucial.com

Btw, these are seriously good RAM prices.

Best actual prices on these items... at places where they are IN stock...

Actually I've got 4 RAM ports - which is even better!

Might have to use that CPU-Z program because I can't get this RAM stick out - I'm not sure if it's just stiff or I need to release something so it slides out and don't want to force it.

And having checked CPU-Z I think the card I've got is this one:

    HyperX Fury HP32D4U8S8HC-8X - 8GB DDR4 3200MHz Non-ECC UDIMM RAM PC4-23400 288Pin Memory Module for Desktops : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
