What a bummer
I finally had my main system on 10, loving it, etc.
and it dies.
6 years strong, it died yesterday afternoon whilst playing Kerbal space, and rebooting it is throwing codes.
It's an EVGA x58 Classified using a core i7-920 (cooler master V8 cooler) with 6GB corsair RAM (3x2GB) with a EVGA GTX 295 card.
Video of post: http://www.dynamicflight.com/dl/EVGA Boot Up.mp4
notes; two issues at hand: (not looking for a solution here, but you never know who's reading and capabilities)
The 295's fan no longer powers on on power on of the system, green light on the card though. I've kept it very clean over 6 years, not sure when that occurred, but that has to be addressed after the following below.
The board when booting gives me an F3 F^ cycle, then a couple other codes, a look online tells me that it is not finding the RAM. I took all ram out and disconnected all other sata lines, etc. and I STILL get the F3 F6 cycling, which some have indicated means the memory controller on the processor itself has bit it.
None of the codes have anything to do with the video card, it doesn't get that far in post to get there ...
I've removed the CPU and replaced, same thing, but don't think it was jostled by the cooler after being good for 6 years, My OC was only to 3Ghz, not stressful at all on it, but I'll take the hit if that is the determination.
So, my thought process here is I get a cycling F3 F6 when no ram exists at all on it, and I'm going to get a refurb i7-950 to try in the board (I went with the 920 figuring to save and could safely OC to the 3.0 that the 950 runs natively) as I can get those for like $60 certified and warrantied. I don't believe all my ram modules decided to go bad at the same time.
If placed in the board and I no longer get the F3 F6 cycle, then I could go ahead and turn my attention to the GTX 295.
My plan there is to see if I have another rig I can try it in, if the fan doesn't come on there either, then RMA it goes.
Does this sound valid?
My board, and the video card are still covered by the limited LT warranty at EVGA, I'm working with them as well, but like to bounce off the community.
Luckily, my data is safe, my primary OS drive had windows and some programs, data and other storage was on two additional drives, which can be hooked up internally or externally if needed, depending on what I do next.
Its a bit depressing, as zero issues since I assembled it in 2009 and configured it, but I got my moneys worth out of it, and I don't think I have to trash it just yet either being that both components may be covered.
