New Build Will Not Go Into BIOS

The build in question will not go past the following screen. No keyboard response is the problem although I've tried different USB ports, and the screen does show 1 keyboard recognized. No PS2 port on this board. Pressing any key (F1, F2, DEL, F8, Escape) does nothing whether tapping from power on or holding on. Flashed the BIOS but that did not correct it. Searched the Web but did not find quite this same problem. Below screen appears to show all is recognized and well, although the mobo boot LED is solid green but I think it only means no OS is installed yet. Thoughts?

You might try plugging your KB into another USB port. If that still does not help, then try performing a CLEAR CMOS operation (see your motherboard user for steps on your motherboard).

Use these USB connectors for keyboard and if you have (wired mouse)...

I see you have a 980 Pro M.2 SSD. These are VERY fast.
You might want to try "spamming" the F1 or DEL key, as soon as you hear the fans come on.
About twice a second is usually sufficient.

Before posting the first, I had tried different USB ports and both 2.0 and 3.0 variety. The keyboard worked before I shutdown the previous system yesterday morning so I don't think that is the culprit. I've now tried:

    Clearing CMOS
    Removing the battery
    Resetting the heatsink
    Checking memory chips are seated

Watching the troubleshooting LED lights on the mobo and listening to the system it starts like two times. After pressing the power button the fans come on and the CPU light is red for a millisecond then the DRAM light comes on then the system seems to shut down then restart all with no beep as of yet. Then it restarts with the DRAM light on then no light then a beep then the VGA light then the above screen shot shows on the monitor.

I could try the memory in the old system as it is compatible but since it was running solidly and I may end up going back to it I really do not want to dismantle the heatsink, etc. to try that. I'm right now at an end and may take it to a repair shop on Monday.

Since removing the battery the screen message has changed from mentioning New CPU installed to entering setup because of changes needing to be made for Intel Optane or RAID configuration, neither of which apply. Still no keyboard response.

I bolded where the problem is. That's something to do with hardware.
You need to fix that... first. then you'll be able to get into the BIOS.

Also, in the 2nd pic I posted... have you tried getting into the BIOS after POST?

I don't think that will work either, but ya never know.
Did you plug the CPU fan(s) into the proper spots? That can cause issues if they are plugged in elsewhere.

At the risk of asking a "Captain Obvious" question, have you tried a different keyboard?
Is it the keyboard in your specs? The one in specs seems to be a fairly normal wired model.
If not that keyboard, is it wired or wireless? Special button to make the F- keys work?
Keyboard in specs has an F Lock key. This must be toggled on for the F key to work normally.

Sorry if you already know and tried these things..... just spit balling ideas here.

    peace

Thanks to all for the responses; Wannagofast, I've been building my own since 1998 and if I've learned anything in doing so it is that often the Captain Obvious questions are the ones we may overlook when we have a palm hit to the forehead moment. I wish that were the case here but it looks like not.

I've tried everything mentioned in the responses here and so far no go. I thought I might be onto something when I discovered the memory modules line up with their CMKxxxxx number but then found that the version number in the Asus QVL is 4.31 and that in the system is 4.32. Didn't think that would matter but did manage to get the memory out of the Skylake system (which on the Asus QVL is a perfect fit even the version number ) and into the new system without removing the Noctua heatsinks out of either, but still no change. The system does shut down momentarily after the memory check light flashes on the mobo so I thought perhaps....Sigh. I'm rechecking everything such as connections for the tenth time but it does not look promising.

Wannagofast, I had to burst out laughing at myself as I missed what you said about the Special button to make the F-key work. That resolved the problem of not being able to enter the BIOS!!! LOL!!! Captain Obvious strikes again! Thank you much.

The computer still does not work right and takes 35 seconds before the BIOS screen shows but I have installed Windows and at least now can begin to look at things in the BIOS and begin resolving the other issues. Again, thanks to all of you.

Glad you got it sorted out. (kinda) At least now you can work on debugging things. Enjoy.
