    Upgrading Ryzen CPU

Hi guys, A little bit of advice please.

I am going to upgrade my processor, it is compatible with my motherboard and Bios.
It is a straight swap of an AMD Ryzen 5 for a slightly more powerful one.

Do I need to remove the old processor from device manager in Windows 10 Pro (21H1) before the change?
Once the new CPU is in place, does Windows 10 recognise it automatically on the next boot up?

    Thanks in advance,
    Paul.

Just physically change the CPU and make sure that your BIOS is updated to support it first.

As mentioned above, just change it. I changed mine and windows/BIOS picked it right up.

Should be fine. Check activation for windows after it boots back up. If it says failed activation click activate now and choose I changed hardware

Ryzen 5 1600 to 2600 - just for my workstation.

    UPDATE:

    All went well.

The Bios was up to date.

Old heatsink and cpu removed and new ones installed in less than 15 minutes.

Booted into Bios - to check it was correct cpu installed.

Then into Windows 10, new CPU found automatically. Just had to reinstall chipset drivers.

    Thanks for the advice.
