Tips for running memory at proper speed

I have an MSI X470 Gaming Plus Max motherboard and 16 GB of GSkill 3200 DDR4 RAM. I am unable to get the memory to run at 3200 MHz without frequent blue screens. It runs fine at 2933.

I'm looking for suggestions to try to get my memory to run at speed. I have tried upping the RAM voltage a little, but that did not help. I am wondering if it might be a limitation of the memory controller on my CPU (Ryzen 2700X).

I am ready to fiddle with the timings a little, but I don't know where to start. If anyone has a suggestion I would be grateful.

Usually bumping the DRAM Vs works. In the timings try CmD2 if its on CmD1

If you are "ready to fiddle with the timings a little" this may help: DRAM Calculator for Ryzen (v1.7.3) Download | TechPowerUp in conjunction with Thaiphoon Burner - Official Support Website and Ryzen Timing Checker (1.05) Download | TechPowerUp

@Dude - I assume that you are referring to the command rate?

@CountMike - I will give that a try and see if I can make it work. I see a long night of memory testing ahead of me. lol

Thanks for the info, both of you. :)

Good luck, memory testing can last days, not hours.

After a lot of testing, it would seem to be stable after changing a couple of the timing parameters (increased by one, with advice from the Ryzen memory tool).

I am going to close the thread. Thank you for your help, gentlemen.

Just to add a note to this, and here's a weird one: I was unable to get the memory stable at 3200 using BIOS, but it runs fine on 2933. But I accidentally tightened the timings and upped the speed using Ryzen Master without noticing it. My system is now at 3200 16-17-17-38 and has been running flawlessly for a week.

I have no idea why, but I will take it as a win. :)
