I just use a dot, about the size of a pea. Under the heat spreader, the CPU looks like this...

    Attachment 335474

meaning doesn't really need to go to the ends of the heat spreader or CPU mostly center ? Seen some where comes out the edges a bit.

Yeah, ya don't want it coming out the edges.

    Here's a 10900K de-lidded. A 10700KF will be a bit shorter in the 22.4mm direction.

The teeny triangle in the lower left corner, will show you how it's oriented.
You may want to use the line method.

Don't get me confused now ! Most use dot line doesn't spread the same. This what the picture is showing a line method ?

You felt a gram wouldn't be enough or did you figure to buy 5g in case of mistake and do over ?

A gram is plenty. You can do 2-4 times with that much. BUT... a few years from now.... instead of having to rush around finding some, with 5.5 g, you'll still have some.

In case of do overs, and for times when a friend needs new thermal compound, etc.

    I just looked. I have a 3.5g tube of Zalman STG-2 and a 1.5 g tube of cooler master.

Seems from your first diagram and video that a dot spreads better, line is trickier mattering to how long it is right ? (as second post diagram 2 shows). Noctua gives you NH-1 paste which is suppose to be good too. Knows about Grizzly from research.

Grizzly Kryonaut is about the best there is, until you get into the liquid metals.

The worst time when building a comp, is that time while waiting for the parts, and overthinking things.

You're gonna be fine. You got good parts, you did your research. Relax and enjoy.

Best thing you can do now is download your motherboard manual, and read it a few times, till everything arrives.

Many people on PC Part picker used the Arctic Cooler with 10 gen. CPU but many didn't explain how temps were.

Iknow needed question about a cooler my biggest concern, trickiest part is always the paste applying.

Temps ofc, have a lot to do with ambient room temp, the case fans... etc.
    You'll be fine.

For future reference... the best thing to remove thermal compound is Isopropyl alcohol (90% or better) and coffee filters.
