    First Rebuild - Advice Appreciated

Got hold of a GTX 1070 and finally rebuilding.

Proposed: System Builder - Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core, GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition, Sumo Omega ATX Mid Tower - PCPartPicker

I'd appreciate some opinions of that.

What I most need to know... what do you need to do with old GPU drivers (etc) to pop in a new/different card (without incurring issues)? I'll have two days to ensure the GPU works and everything or I get effed (Offer Up), so lol.

Oh, and how would you recommend I best test a used GPU?

I've never dealt with used hardware before, no idea what I'm looking out for here. Thanks guys.

In most cases we use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to change drivers.

    Follow the directions below...

    DDU Instructions - Nvidia
    1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
    2. Get the Standard/Game Ready vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: Advanced Driver Search | NVIDIA ...save this to your desktop. Get the driver for the GTX 1070.
    Unhook the internet completely.
    3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
    4. After it's done, turn the computer off, and put in the GTX 1070, then... reboot to normal mode, then just double click the Nvidia driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.
    Rehook the internet.

As for testing the used video card, you can use the free Unigine Superposition benchmark.

Here... you can compare with others who have run this benchmark... (with download link)

As for your build... I would get a better case. Something from this list...

    Choose A Case - PCPartPicker

Also, you shouldn't have to "buy" a new copy of Windows 10. You can just use the product key you already have and use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool to create new Windows 10 install media...

Don’t have the GPU just now, on the way. Thanks for the info.

Eh, stuck with this chassis. I use predominantly 3.5” HDD’s and very few have cages for them anymore (I also still use 5.25”, same situation). It’s a tight fit in there (with the NH-D14) but it works.

Ah, well Microsoft absconded with my Retail 7 Pro for this “free” upgrade... I don’t think I can do that, unfortunately. I’d love it if I could and it worked but I have doubts (I’ve even eschewed clean installing, though this system could really use it, ever since because I fear it would refuse to reactivate). =/

Alright, I’ll pop back in after the GPU’s here and I’m getting down to the gritty business. Just wanted to get my ducks in a row as it were. Thanks again.

Oh, except, this chassis has 3-pin fan headers and a built-in controller. Wanted to use 4-pin PWM instead but I noted there’s not really an actual non-CPU/non-pump fan header for the top fans. What do you think I should do for those? Splitter/extension? (I’m new to messing with chassis fans too, sorry).

    Here ya go...
Fractal Design Define 7 Light ATX Mid Tower Case (FD-C-DEF7A-02) - PCPartPicker

    6x 3.5" bays
    2x 2.5" bays
    1x 5.25" bay
has dust filters for all the intakes

If you need any extra fans, get 140mm fans. And... your Noctua D14 will fit.

As for Windows... if it says "activated with a digital license", and you attach it to a Microsoft account... you're good to go, for activation.

I use NVCleanstall to install NVidia GPU drivers to avoid installing the unnecessary NVidia bloatware. This utility also permits a clean install on NVidia drivers. NVCleanstall (v1.9.0) Download | TechPowerUp

Hm. It appears to be the same driver between the 1070 and the 760. If so... I don't need to mess with the drivers, correct?

And 1070 should be getting here today.

1070 legit and working (and no, drivers uninstall/reinstall wasn't necessary).

And rebuild has turned into a new build:
System Builder - Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core, GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition, Meshify 2 ATX Mid Tower - PCPartPicker

Should get all the hardware in by Thursday.

Built, but RAM is bad (Memtest86). Switched the DIMMS around the slots and... still bad.

Fingers and toes crossed it's not motherboard or CPU instead... (RAM replacement getting in tomorrow).

Oh, and there's a TMPIN4 reaching 80C according to HWMonitor. I suspect the VRM. OK, or should I be concerned? That's just in Windows, not much load.
