Wonderful cooler, but the size of a farm animal's head.
lmao yeah, at that temperature it must be pretty loud as well. Can you get the same level of cooling for a AIO?

Never owned a D15, but I'd certainly expect it is NOT loud unless the fans are wound up to say 1500 rpm or more.

The second fan (push/pull) helps temps just a few degrees, but adds virtually no additional noise.

Noctua fans are famed for low noise, but they become audible like any other if you spin them fast enough.

I've got a Noctua U9S...smallish, cheapish, and can't hear it at all at 4 feet.

Never used an AIO, but from what I recall, the DH-15 or similar top end air coolers have similar performance to AIO. It's just a matter of if you want to tolerate the AIO issues in exchange for perhaps a few degrees. Of course, case fans play into the situation as well.

I've just always been willing to tolerate a bit higher temps in exchange for less noise, less weight hanging off a motherboard, and less expense. I don't overclock and I rarely stand on the throttle for extended periods.

I changed to a narrower case and had to downsize coolers from Noctua NH-U12 to NH-U9. Temp difference was only 3 or 4 degrees.

I've got a Noctua D15S (single fan) in a Lian Li Lancool II Mesh RGB case with 8 case fans and don't find the Noctua distractingly noisy.
I get good temps with this current setup. I do think the setup and placement of the case fans is critically important.

With my PC (see pic) there the 5 fans sucking air in (2 at the bottom and the 3 in the front) and 3 extracting air (one in the back and two in the roof of the case)

Yep.....anywhere from a BB to a green pea. Smack dab in the middle.

But they say mayonnaise works well, so??

    What about some peanut butter?

Some goofball did a test of using all kinds of stuff for thermal paste. Maybe 10 years ago??

It got quite a bit of publicity at the time. I can't recall what all he tried, but I'd guess peanut butter was one of them. Mayonnaise for sure.

As I recall, some of the weird stuff worked quite well and there was disappointingly little difference between a lot of the legit thermal pastes...well within the margin of error. But everybody is subject to marketing pressures and fear of not being on the cutting edge, so there's dozens of pastes for sale.

I don't tend to focus much on temps. I don't tend to overclock much (if at all), so as long as my box is running relatively where it should be, I don't worry about it.

I'm running a Ryzen 5900x with a BeQuiet Dark Rock 4 Pro cooler. The cooler has 2 fans, a 135mm fan in the center of the stack and a 120mm fan out front (smaller for RAM clearance). At max fan speeds, it's only 24.3db(A).

In my case, I have 2 front 140mm fractal dynamic X2 GP-14's and 1 rear exhaust 140mm fractal dynamic X2 GP-14. My case allows for 9 case fans, but I'm fine with just these 3.

My ambient is about 20c in the winter time (and now) and gets to around 24c in the summer.

My CPU usually idles around 35C. i'm searching to see if I have ever commented on my max temps. Maybe I haven't ever tested it at max. Probably just ran Cinebench when I first got the machine built.

You are maybe thinking of Jorgen Elton Nilsen, of the Norwegian tech site Tek.No. Peanut butter wasn't on the test list....

...Nilsen set up his Innovatek Kühlertester KT-3 with a heat spreader and an Asus Triton 77 heatsink mounted on top of the CPU and proceeded to test toothpaste, yellow cheese, hair wax, moisturizing cream, butter, banana, and paper at intervals of 15 minutes under a 90-watt load.
