High end B550 or Standard X570?

Look for a X570 motherboard which has a ball bearing fan and software control which turns off the the fan under low load. I avoid any motherboard suppliers which give a poor warranty e.g. MSI who only offer a 1 year warranty.

I've done a recent review of X570 boards for a new PC build in a few months time. My selection criteria are:

• Quiet chipset fan
• 3 year warranty
• Front panel USB header
• Dual BIOS preferred
• On board LED diagnostic preferred
• WiFi
• Good sound e.g. ALC1220
• Good power control
• Intel Ethernet preferred
• Price under £250
• Low poor ratings on Amazon (1* + 2*)

My current shortlist based on the above is:

• GigaByte X570 Aorus Ultra
• Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus (WI-FI)

Of course if you do not want WifI adapter built in & a 3rd m.2 slot you could just get the Aorus Elite X570 as it is at a good price in Uk in fact lower than I got myne for back in Jan 2020.

As for not having LED Post lights just buy a speaker to plug into the power switch board as this would give you alot more info on boot problems with the beeps & the fan stops when not under load in fact most of the components for all those Aorus range have the same chips with just a few extra features & I think the Ultra looks ugly when compared to the Elite & thats not a bias opinion because I have one, lol.

The good factors about the Elite & Ultra is the heatsink is not a silly long one connected to the chipset which is more like a sales tactic than about cooling to me.

B550 ones (like the one I linked) are great too, but X570 is better because of PCI-e 4.0 ie. more future-proof for me.

Which one? Also, which CPU since prices are high at the moment?

B550 has PCIe 4 too, I just ordered this

You loose a couple of Sata ports also when the Express lanes are filled on B550 & in my Aorus Elite B450 mobo I have I loose 2 sata ports with 1 m.2 & 2 sata ports with 2 X m.2.





Until they make something better than a X570 chipset I am not buying any other board myself.

Also see below when you use the second m.2 slot that is only PCi 3.0, this is why Auros X570 Elite is better.

Yes, I looked at them, the B550 fits my needs. Will be getting X670 in a year or 2 anyway

What I am really saying to anyone who reads this & want to choose a new motherboard is read the specs to see if there is any limitations on the chipset side & what slowdowns you get if any & what ports you are gonna use & for future expansion, as you do not want to expand if the motherboard suddenly drops the speed of a slot because of an added card on 1 of the slots etc.

Whenever anybody on a forum mentions a motherboard the first thing I do is go & look at it's specifications because that's the way I am, I go for specs over looks most of the time.

I snapped up a Rog Strix Vega 56 GPU because of it's 3 fans & Vegas over heating problem with 2 fans as I looked at its specs first & the £270 price made it a better choice than a 5700 which was £100 more for not much difference about this time last year...
