@AddRAM
Yeah i got mine last year, so i think i got the one with the older specs as far as i know lol, bought it December 2020 i believe for Christmas then.
You should be good then
As long as you tested and got the advertised specs, you`re good.
If we don`t have boards with PCI-Express ver 4.0 we won`t see the full benefit of the 980 Pro anyway, right now that doesn`t matter to me.
I`ll build a new system in the future.

The benefit to me for M.2's is simply that they don't require a power cable or a data cable. You just clip them into the motherboard and you are ready to go.
In some respects, I feel this same advantage can also be a disadvantage. I like to occasionally unplug my primary drive to plug in a test drive to screw around with something new. The M.2's make this more difficult to achieve. Especially with my particular mobo. To take out the M.2, I have to remove the video card, and take a shroud off my X570 chipset to gain access to the M.2 screws.
Obviously, another big benefit is that read/write throughput is much better on an M.2 PCIE based NVME. But that's the part we are all probably the most focused on and already aware of.
As far the Samsung EVO versus Pro. I find the EVO's to be just fine for many, many people. The Pro does offer slightly better specs, but aside from a very specific use case or benchmark, you probably won't notice any difference. The PRO also offers more endurance, but I don't think most people will be keeping their SSD's long enough to really benefit from the longer endurance. Chances are you will want a larger capacity drive, or a higher performant drive long before you run out of write cycles.
I don't have the pro version just the 980 mine works fine and i would think the pro would work the same for me anyway
