I think I`ll get a Samsung 860 Pro 512GB SSD for W11, the M.2`s don`t really impress me that much.

But, I have heard from a few members here who bought a 980 Pro, that they are working great.

I`m always telling people to avoid the Evo`s if possible.

Right now, Samsung has no 980 Pro 500GB M.2`s in stock. As he mentions, maybe there just aren`t any chips to make them right now, which is perfectly acceptable.

I wouldn`t go any higher than 500 or 512GB for a OS drive.

Newegg has them for $119.99 which is a great price IMO

I would surely hope Samsung would not put inferior parts on their Pro line.

You are going to NEED an M.2 PCIe drive to use the up & coming Direct Storage and must use the default Windows driver for it, and not Samsungs driver.
But this also depends on what graphics card you have(DX12 ultimate needed I think)

Windows 10 will officially support DirectStorage after all

Ya I read about that. Doesn`t Samsung have a driver for the 980 Pro yet ?

I installed W11 on a Samsung 850 Pro and it works fine.

I have all green X`s using the WhyNotW11 tool.

    On the X299.

I doubt I`ll be installing W11 anytime soon, no need for it

"Driver" you mean? PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives don't get one from Samsung

I have a 980 Pro as my boot/os drive and so far it seems to work very well.
It is possible to force it to use the Samsung NVMe 3.3.0 driver from the 970.
I tried it but really didn't see any difference in performance in normal use.

    peace
    wanna
