The dilemma or getting an i7 or an i9 processor

    Hello there!

Well, this Christmas I think I'm finally going to retire my Core 2 Duo E6750. She's had a good run for 14 years and has provided me countless hours of gaming, coding and working remote during the apocalypse light.

So, I'm not going to try and go all gen 10 of the Intel processors, gen 9 will be just fine. But if I go i7 I get to save some money but at what cost? Just looking at the i9 specs you can see it packs a little bit more and like I said before, is it worth it?

Once I get past this part the rest is fairly easy!

    Thanks for the input! =)

Any chance of going with an AMD based system? My last few PC's were all Intel, but performance and productivity are solidly in the AMD corner right now.

A Ryzen 5600X (when you can finally find one), is a great find at 299.

AMD is an option. I had a AMD system before I had Core2. Only thing was I was hoping to get an 8 core. This way I can stop dual booting with Linux and just have a virtual machine. I guess 6 cores would be OK.

Can always opt for the ryzen 7 5800x. Its $449 and gives you 8 cores.

I currently run a core i5, 4 core without hyperthreading and a I run a lab with a dc, an iscsi storage server, and a 2 node failover SQL cluster. It runs pretty good.

I haven't dual booted in forever.

cheapest i9, the 9900k; 350 at newegg right now; passmark benchmark 18883; single thread score 2978

most expensive i7, the 9700k; 269 at newegg right now; passmark benchmark 14616; single thread score 2914

    81 dollars difference.

Would you pay 81 dollars to avoid buyer's remorse?
