    Want to build up my HP Pavillion

    and was looking through the index of tutorials. Didn't find anything on "how to" add parts that will turn my Computer into a "monster truck" I mean why not! I see others with these souped up 'puters and I would love the challenge. I have a nice, laptop as well as my HP desktop for backup.

    Can someone point me to the right tutorial or maybe a thread on sort of "rebuilding" a PC or just customizing it?

    Here's what I have now, and I don't have super highspeed internet (about 40 mps) but I just want to get all I can out of this PC, instead of buying a new one eventually. Maybe not possible with what I have, but I'm spending my christmas money on me since I want to

    @Goldengirl52

    Trying to build a computer out of a prebuilt, isn't really a good idea. They use proprietary parts which will probably have to be replaced anyway.

    This would be a nice computer... System Builder - Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core, GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB SC ULTRA GAMING, H510 ATX Mid Tower - PCPartPicker

    @Goldengirl52,
    In that case I would definitely get +8 GB or more RAM and a SSD boot drive if you don't have one and Santa can't afford a whole new PC How does you PC perform now based on your needs? Get a new PC today, it will be obsolete soon - the never ending game of keeping up.

    @Goldengirl52,
    If you don't already make full backups: Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect
    An external hard drive for backups would be good to add to the list too if you don't have one.

    I want it to run as fast as it can, so what would I add to make that happen?

    I have 8GB of RAM but I don't put a lot on my PC. So I don't think that is why it's not very fast. I got rid of the bloatware and it still feels slow to me, even when playing games offline. Like I mentioned, I don't have high-speed internet and even if I went up to that, the most I can afford is 100 mps, download I mean.

    I don't think I could do a PC from scratch, and heard of people that buy "say an HP" and soup it up and resell it. I bought a laptop that they did that to and it was great. Felt sorry for my sister so gave it to her. Should have given her my old Toshiba because it's more her speed, which is Facebook casino and that's all, literally ;(

    As far as I know, AMD has only 1 faster CPU with integrated graphics like your 2200G. That would be the 2400G.

    If you wanted a much faster CPU, you'd have to give up on the idea of integrated graphics and instead use a separate video card. I have no idea if that is possible with your current motherboard.

    You might get an SSD if you don't have one........that could be carried over to any new PC you might eventually buy.

    I tend to agree with others that you're better off starting from scratch if you want a major increase in performance.

    The major limiting factor in perceived "speed" is the CPU itself, leaving aside a spinning hard drive.

    Nice. How does that make you feel about trying that path? Could become your sister's future PC.........

    The Sunflower motherboard: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05939208

    Accepts an NVME M.2 SSD. That'd be a significant upgrade.

    The RAM can be expanded to 16GB.

    I'm not sure about the graphics card. Your RX550 is a relatively low-powered card, and uses no auxiliary PCI-E power connector. The PSU in the Pavilion may also be only 310W, which is quite weak for most add-in graphics cards. It may be possible to upgrade the PSU too, though. There also seems to be a graphics card scarcity at the moment. I'm shocked to see nVidia "Turing" cards being sold at scalper's prices. (That's the previous generation, not the latest 3000 series "Ampere" cards.)

    Getting into less-trod paths, the CPU could be upgraded to a Ryzen 7 2700. UserBenchmark: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G vs 7 2700 That'd give you 8 cores/16 threads rather than the 4 cores/4 threads with the Ryzen 3 2200g. (No on-chips graphics with the 2700.)

    Be sure to cost out your upgrades wisely. You may find that it makes more sense to go with a whole new prebuilt. Or to venture into your first home-assembled PC. (You may not save money, but you'd know what was in the box, because you'd have specified everything.)
