    Over rated??

In my personal experience with them, I switched from a HDD to a SSD and it was 10, maybe 20 times faster!! I will always suggest upgrading to a SSD. I've also not encountered any issues what so ever with it. All my data is still there.

I thought them their days were over

Even if you buy the cheapest $40 SSD that you can find, it's still at least 5x faster than HDD.

Are you not at all impressed with the speed of a SSD?

Once you get used to them, they don't look remarkable but switch a HDD and you'd be tapping your foot waiting for something to happen once you click the mouse button.

I have an SSD and HDD.. the SSD is for my OS/Programs/Apps and the HDD is for my data. It's not really a bad deal for say a 120 or 256GB SSD today.

the only thing that stands out for me is the lack of noise from the hard drive and a cooler running environment in side the case

I have to confess my main machine runs a SSD HD crucial 250GB Boot Drive but I would not trust them as a backup drive will stick with
sata platter :) for as long as I can
