    My new build?

I am selecting the stuff for my new computer build. I favor AMD, and ASUS motherboards.
Here is what I am looking at. I alway go a little overboard on the motherboard. What do you think. The PC will be my music/video server plus it will be used in my Ham Shack for rig control, Software Defined Radio's, etc. But not for gaming.

    Motherboard:
ASUS ROG Strix B550-E Gaming AMD AM4 (3rd Gen Ryzen ATX Gaming Motherboard (PCIe 4.0, NVIDIA SLI, WiFi 6, 2.5Gb LAN, 14+2 Power Stages, Front USB 3.2 Type-C, Addressable Gen 2 RGB and Aura Sync)

    CPU:
AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT 6-core, 12-threads unlocked desktop processor with Wraith Spire cooler

    DDR4 RAM:
    Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16

To this I will add my ASUS ROG-STRIX-RX580-O8G-GAMINGOC Edition GDDR5 DP HDMI DVI VR Ready AMD Graphics Card

The Wraith Spire Cooler is supposed to be a good one but I may use a Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4, Premium Dual-Tower CPU Cooler for AMD AM4 in it's place. The Noctua has very easy to replace fans.

One Question are there any HDD size restrictions on this mobo. I am a HD packrat I have 5 installed for a total of 7TB's. I want to copy their content over to a pair 6TB drives.

    @transmaster

I would get this RAM instead... it's faster (tighter timings). It's compatible with your motherboard.
    G.Skill Trident Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL14 Memory (F4-3200C14D-16GTZKW) - PCPartPicker

As for the HDDs... they will work on that motherboard.

Thank You that is just the kind of advice I was looking for. I have added the G-Skill RAM to my list. I am not going to make the mistakes I made on my last build.

What is your budget and what are the key features you are looking for
I am sure you can get a better setup if you give us some information on what you like don't like and also what you want to cheap out on except PSU never cheap out on that

That specific Noctua is huge.........an ounce under 3 pounds with fans; over 2 pounds without.

It's a fine cooler, but do you need that much cooling?

It's 165 mm tall with fans. Is your case OK with that?

My case is a Corsair Obsidian 750D full tower. My present cooler is a Corsair Hydro Series H100i I am very pleased with it, I still might just get the upgraded version. I did not realize the Noctua was so heavy. What I am doing is replacing a failed ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ motherboard. I have a Corsair HX1200i Platinum PS. Budget wise perhaps $800 bucks for what need.

That's plenty for a upgrade and right now Zen 2 should be lower in price MB/CPU and Ram you could get away with $500.00 or less on all three

If you are not a heavy duty serious overclocker really pushing the CPU, look at elsewhere in the Noctua line........probably from something with a single fan and a single tower. U14S, U12S, that type of thing.

A lot lighter and perfectly fine for most purposes.

Check your case spec sheet. There should be a number given for maximum cooler height in millimeters.
