Abnormal heating of CPU in just one tab of Google chrome.
I have Windows 10 version 1909 (OS Build 18363.1082).
Chrome is known to hog a lot of memory. There has been many posts on the web.
Surprisingly I have just one open tab in Chrome and the temperature of my laptop CPU shot to 95 degrees celsius. When I closed chrome, the CPU temperature goes back to 71 degrees. Moreover, this doesn't happen when I unplug my charger. This only happens when I am using my laptop while charging.
I have no applications running as you can see in the screenshots.
What should I do to fix this heating issue?
This one is with Chrome having just one wikipedia page open.
This one is with Chrome closed.
You can see in my clock that these screenshots were taken at an interval of almost a minute.

Set you CPU max performance to 99% in Power options for your plan. Not sure if turbo boost could work in that case.
maybe there is an update for your firmware?

I haven't touched any settings for turbo boost since day one of owning this laptop. What exactly are those?

There's no update for my laptop's firmware. It's up to date.
Is there anyway I can put Chrome in frozen state the moment it gets minimized? Any windows setting or special app to do this?

Yes, try changing minimum processor state to something less.

If you haven't changed anything it should be fine. You can disable Intel turbo boost for CPU, but will cause (minimum) hit in performance

Not aware of this. But if Chrome is eating up a lot of CPU power even for some Wiki page, there could be someth8ing going on. Like bitcoin mining...
Is it the same with all other browsers? This is just to restrict the search area - from system to browsers
Also is it the same in safe mode?

When plugged in charging is when you are seeing this. Look at the setting you have here. You are tell the machine that on battery only, it's ok to idle down to as close to 0% as possible. But plugged in, charging, NEVER go below 100%. Minimum of 100%. That means charging the machine will run flat out no matter what. You also have High Performance set. Combo of the 2 means go go go fast fast fast! Try throttling these back a little. Maybe choose Balanced, not High Performance.

In safe mode, the temperature does not shoot up. Last year, I installed this extension in chrome, 'miner block' that blocks bitcoin mining on web.
minerBlock - Chrome Web Store
Heating issue is seen in Chrome only. Firefox doesn't do heating. Surprisingly, as I type this, 8 tabs in chrome are open and my CPU temperature is 70 degrees celsius which is not much. I didn't change any settings all this while.

Archz2, I have to agree with TC, set the minimum processor state back to 0%. I'm not at my PC now but I'm certain that's how mine is configured.
I suspect you also have something else happening. Do you have any third-party anti-virus?
Post a screenshot of the Task Manager sorted by highest Processor. My PC processor state at idle is typically 0-1%.

Maybe this extension was the issue..
look at the recent comments:
Maybe author fixed the problem
Change that minimum CPU level to something less than 100% anyway... I would switch to balanced plan
