RAM Upgrade for ASUS Rampage V Extreme

Six years ago, I bought parts and had my PC assembled. I'm still using the same mobo, CPU, GPU, PSU (it's 1,000 watt) and RAM. I'm heavily considering upgrading my RAM to 64GB, but I cannot get a concrete answer on compatibility of RAM with my motherboard, since the Memory Support List is no longer updated, and plus, the ASUS ROG community forums for X99 boards are essentially dead.

    Current setup:
    CPU: 5960X
    Motherboard: Rampage V Extreme
    Corsair Dominator Platinum Series 16GB DDR4 2800MHz Memory (CMD16GX4M4A2800C16)

I want to upgrade my RAM to: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 64GB (4x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16 Desktop Memory (CMD64GX4M4C3200C16) (Manufacturer's site here)

Why 64 GB? Just because. 16 GB is giving me problems every now and then, particularly with gaming. My CPU is just fine, according to Rivatuner but I'll be also looking to upgrade my GPU to the 3,000 series when it comes out. I plan on keeping this system running as long as possible.

Anyways, will this memory kit work with my motherboard? Comment, please!

There are RAM vendors that guarantee compatibility.

Consider this option if there is no usable Qualified Vendor List (QVL).

Yeah that RAM you want is on the Memory Finder page at Corsair's website.

    https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Catego...tab-tech-specs

When you sort for ASUS and your motherboard model... then choose: Price (highest first) in the drop down box...
...it's the 9th one down from the top. Choose the middle box (motherboard) at the link below.

yeah that's where I found it. The weird thing about that site is, that I selected my motherboard, selected 4 modules, 64 GB and then yes, they appeared. But I also filtered by Compatibility, selecting x99, which seems kinda strange to me since the motherboard is already x99, and the Corsair Dominator Platinums went away, only showing Corsair Vengeance models, so I was a little confused.

Also, according to my motherboard's website, it only supports 8GB modules, has 8 slots, for a total of 64 GB. THAT problem apparently was taken care of with a BIOS update, and people have been able to get even 128GB of RAM working with this board, filling every slot. I don't need that much. In fact, I may not even need 32GB right now, but I want 64GB anyways, just in case things get even crazier with RAM usage over the next couple years.

Yep, and that Dominator RAM is pretty too. Next you're gonna need a new vid card. Maybe an RTX 3090.

Oh, believe me...I'm heavily considering that GPU card. I'm thinking my monitor could die any day now, since I got it in 2012, my last one lasted 8 years. This one, who knows. I'll get a 4K monitor to replace it, when that happens, granted, 4K is probably just stupid at my screen size and the distance I am from the monitor (27" monitor and I may be roughly that far away from my monitor as well).

BTW I did contact Corsair, they responded to me with a link to their site and customized their ram checker options for me. I messed with it a little so I could view items that were out of stock, to which I ordered that from NewEgg this past Friday, it will ship tomorrow. Once I get it installed and verify it works, I'll post back here and mark the thread as solved. Otherwise, if I have issues, I'll indicate as such. BTW, it's the Vengeance LPX, which, I don't think will look as "pretty" next to a 3090 as Dominator Platinum would, but that's ok.

    Hi,
Yeah good luck with 3200c16 working
Mine wouldn't even post with it installed trident-z 3200c16 4x8gb kit

    Only trident-z 3200c14 worked 4x8gb kit b-die.

Actually, yes. I received it on Friday and a friend came over to help install it this past Tuesday, so basically it sat around for a couple of days.

    This is the kit I bought: CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model CMK64GX4M4C3000C15

With my old RAM, my BIOS showed two profiles, one of them actually worked.

With my new RAM, only 1 XMP profile shows up. I tried applying it, and my computer would not boot. I had to shut it down and start it back up and it came back as "Overclocking Failure" in my BIOS, so I had to set everything back to defaults.

That said, I honestly have no idea about how to go about Overclocking. I've always been dependent on things such as the XMP profile or other forms of automated overclocking, and now that I think about it, there's one for air cooling in my motherboard that I need to try.

So basically the RAM works at 2133, even though it is said that it can go as high as 3000 MHz.

I had trouble get my RAM to work as well. I used CPU-Z's SPD tab (XMP-3200 column, in my case) to set my RAM in the BIOS.
    It worked.

Here was my topic: ASUS motherboard RAM timings problem

I believe I set the follow timings like so...

RAM Upgrade for ASUS Rampage V Extreme-image1.png

RAM Upgrade for ASUS Rampage V Extreme-image1.png

My RAM: F4-3200C14D-16GTZKW-G.SKILL International Enterprise Co., Ltd.

Brb, I'm gonna double check in the BIOS.

Yep. First I set the frequency, then the voltage, then the timings. Then F10 to Save & Exit.

I used what CPU-Z told me in the circled column and guessed at the DRAM RAS# PRE Time. With that left on Auto...it wouldn't work.
