What do I need to absolutely upgrade for next gen?

So here is the issue, depending on how much I need to upgrade to play next gen, I'm considering either going with the xbox series x (alongside the ps5 I know I will get regardless) or upgrading my pc depending on cost factor. And I am just not sure what will be more worth it. I mainly use my pc now as a Giant xbox and playing mostly xbox games on it, while rarely playing pc only titles. So I saw the announcement of the new GPU and I was thinking if I would get one I would go for the 3070 based on price and performance. But I am worried my cpu/ram will be bottlenecked with it. Then again, my pc is only using a 1080p monitor at 60fps so I doubt I would go higher than that. But connecting to my 4k tv would be nice, and I don't think I would go above 60fps since the tv couldn't handle this anyway. My thinking then is I would be able to run everything at ultra without issue since I am not going into high fps territory. My motherboard I believe is still a fantastic base, so I don't think I would need to upgrade that. Thanks for any insight. If you think my build is getting to old and It would be a lot of components needed upgraded, then I might just keep it the way it is. Thanks for your time/input.

(It is the desktop in my specs.)

R5 2400g is very elementary processor. For what you are planning to do I would suggest you upgrade it with R53600(x) or upcoming 4600x. Playing at 1080p 60Hz is mostly done on CPU so your system would automatically get a good boost even with present GPU.
Another factor that influences Ryzen performance is RAM, frequency as well as latency. Right now you are limited by your CPU and MB but Matisse (3000 series) can use 4000MHz+) although 3600MHz Cl14/16 is considered as optimum.
Just looking at your MB's specs and something is funny there which makes no sense.

    AMD Ryzen series CPUs (Matisse) support DDR4 3200 / 2933 / 2667 / 2400 / 2133 ECC & non-ECC, un-buffered memory*
    - AMD Ryzen series CPUs
    (Pinnacle Ridge) support DDR4 3466+(OC) / 3200(OC) / 2933(OC) / 2667 / 2400 / 2133 ECC & non-ECC, un-buffered memory*
    - AMD Ryzen series CPUs (Picasso) support DDR4 2933 / 2667 / 2400 / 2133 non-ECC, un-buffered memory*
    - AMD Ryzen series CPUs (Summit Ridge) support DDR4 3466+(OC) / 3200(OC) / 2933(OC) / 2667 / 2400 / 2133 ECC & non-ECC, un-buffered memory*
    - AMD Ryzen series CPUs (Raven Ridge) support DDR4 3466+(OC) / 3200(OC) / 2933 / 2667 / 2400 / 2133 non-ECC, un-buffered memory*
Mainly the ones in red, it should be at least the other way around, 3000 series should have faster RAM

Yeah anytime I try to get my ram to run at the speeds it is capable of (with latest bios update) it sets it and then looses it when I restart when I use the profile recommended. Windows says 2133mhz right now its running at, instead of the 3200 it was advertised for.

I thought my motherboard was still really good, I guess not.

So you think I must upgrade my processor in order to use the new graphics card to its full potential (enough to run next gen)?

Hmm....I was afraid of that. Perhaps the series x will end up being my go to then....A processor plus graphics card won't be cheap and might not be worth it to me.

    thanks

As I said, new CPU in order of 3600(x) or even 3700x would do you much more good than a stronger GPU. . You may also want to consider R5 3300x if you feel that 4 cores/8 threads would be enough, it has great single core performance even slightly higher than 3600/3700x.
Also don't forget that "2" in 2400g still means it's 1st gen Ryzen and now 4th gen is coming, there are a lot of changes in between.

Alright. I'll look into upgrading the cpu if you think the current gpu would be good enough for next gen. Thanks.
