So, my laptop has really old and bad specs. You can check it in this post in 'My computers' Section.
I am planning to replace the celeron 1000M with an i7-3940xm (due to the socket and chipset)
DDR3-1600MHz 2x2GB with DDR3-1600MHz 8x2GB
And an old 320GB hard drive with an 1TB SSD (or 500GB SSD)
And the optical drive with a caddy (for dual storage)
Do you think it will be compatible?
Those 2 processors use the same socket; FCPGA988
The old one is a dual core 1.8 ghz; the new one a quad core 3.0 with 8 threads.
Intel says the new processor was priced at over $1000;
No doubt it would be a big upgrade, but I'd question investing much money in a 7 or 8 year old laptop----even if it could be done fairly easily and all parts were compatible.
On the other hand, maybe these new parts will only cost you $100. I don't know.
Without knowing more, I wouldn't do it. I'd buy a different machine entirely.
A broken hinge on a cheap laptop ... I can relate to that.
Lesson learned: Don't buy a cheap laptop. If you can't afford a business laptop (those start at around $1000), then get a desktop instead.
Otherwise you'll be replacing the cheap laptop time after time after time ... because they break down long before a business laptop (or a cheap desktop) would.
Cheap laptops are GARBAGE GARBAGE GARBAGE. Avoid them.
I agree with @margrave55. It'd best to invest in a good laptop instead of upgrading a cheap one. And compatibility will not be the worst of your problems.
