I have just bought myself a Acer Aspire REVO R3700 Ultra Slim Desktop HDMI Nvidia Computer 2GB Ram 250GB HD pc. I am actually quite excited about it arriving as my 14 year old HP Compaq Pro 6000 is getting up there in age. I am wondering if there is anything I need to know before I make the transition over? What is the differences between the two systems besides the size?
It has Windows 7 on it presently. Ghot, are you sure 2gb of Ram is not enough for Windows 7?
I tried to find the specs and I'm seeing 2GB of RAM and an Intel Atom CPU (1.8Ghz).
IF those ARE the specs, it's gonna be a LOT slower than the one you have currently. Also, Windows 7 Home is no longer supported.
Honestly, I would return that and shop around a bit more.

I want this unit. It has a 5 star rating online and it is supposed to be pretty fast. As for whether windows 7 is supported or not I am not as concerned with that. I know how to keep my pc safe. All that matters is I can get online and type my novel and such. And this unit has that.
Even if a PC works "fine" with 2GB of RAM, the minimum RAM I'd recommend would be 4GB in total. That's fine for most users that only do YouTube, email and Word. For gamers or users that use heavy programs, I'd recommend 8GB of RAM, and in very specific scenarios like special programs, you might want to use 16GB of RAM or even more, but that's quite specific.
The only time a 2GB system is good enough is if the system is going to be used specifically for watching films and listen to music. An HTPC, basically. Any other use, 4GB of RAM are worth it.
By the way, the CPU of your new system is so, so, so weak. Your "old" system is way better, I don't know how you came to the conclusion that this is an upgrade. This is clearly a downgrade.
Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 is way more powerful than the Intel Atom D525.

Well, if one says that that unit is pretty fast, he or she is lying big time. An HDD and an Intel Atom? Seriously?
I'd install Windows 10 in your "old" system, make sure it's clean both hardware and software, may be install an SSD, and that's it. Your new purchase is way worse than your actual PC, there's that. The only reason to do the downgrade is if you want and need that very small form factor PC because of huge dimensions issues (it won't fit in the place you want it to be). Otherwise, it's a bad purchase.
