New 10900K Build plan and Progress thread

Hi All,
Even though I lurk more than I post, I've been through a few builds with you guys. From a 6700k, to 9900k, to recently my AMD workstation and a few other PC's from family or friends.

Anyhow, while it might sound a bit ridiculous and pointless but I'm so bored decided to upgrade the Intel build.

Build is as follow, I'll be re-using the GPU (Until 3080Ti comes out), all storage, PSU, monitor, and all peripherals from current build. So it's not as expensive as the list might show.

So far I received the case (Corsair 500D)





Wrap is is still on the case until I finish it, that's why it looks flossy but it's matte black brushed alu.

I wouldn't use two 2x8gb kits though can't you find one 4x8gb kit of 3200c14 ?

You're right, but I already have 4 x 8 CL14 G.Skill trident-z. I purchased the Dark Pro because it's supposed to be the top overclocking ram and the MSI board I ordered is supposed to be good at it, even though it's not an Asus Extreme or MSI Godlike.

I might return it or just resell it if I see issues. I really want a nice ram overclock but need 32 GB of ram. Will see if I can make it work.

Thanks for the advice though, yes it's better to receive from single kit than 2 "identical". couldn't find the Dark Pro with a 4 sticks bundle at Cl4.

Edit: PS I see you're posting with the 10900K already in benchmarks, can't wait to see your final results. You're waiting for 30XX gpu's?

Yes waiting on 30 series.

c14 is c14 in my book all oc pretty well it is b-die
I'd at least do 3600c15 or c16 though in 4x8gb or 2x16gb
2x16 will oc better just like it does on all dual channel boards.

I have my eye on some 4000c19 2x16gb though 300.us with tax.
Also some 4000c18 2x16gb but this one is too much 450.us with tax.

Yes it's b-die with timings of 14-14-14-31 with default XMP. :)

Can't wait for 30 series. Will wait for the Ti version though.

Forgive me for Asking but you couldn't of gotten 2TB 970 Evo's instead of 1TB ?

If you look at my specs i ended up with a couple SSD'S and NVME's

Also you having a 2080ti you're golden i tested a 2080 Super turns out it was crap !

3 SATA SSD's happened when I ran out of storage with 2 and decided to raid-0 the 3. They are Samsung 850, from 2016 from my 6700k build. I think I selected 860 in PC Part Picker. They are quite old but are still rock solid (knock on wood)

2 NVMe is pretty similar story but from the 9900k build I currently use. Decided to use the secondary slot eventually. Bad planning but I don't mind having it divided. I'm keeping it pretty much organized and it's easy to image the units for backups with Macrium reflect.

If I had to start the storage over, yeah I'd do it differently. Would first populate NVME slot 1 with 2TB. Good thing is the 500D has 3 SSD slots on the back. Perfect fit, and 2 3.5" for my mechanical drives.


About the super, really? I didn't know that. I've 3440x1440 to push so that's mainly why I went with a Ti, and at that price point, I don't want any buyer remorse.

I'm not a fan of my Asus Strix though. I think it's one of the ugliest shroud you can get when mounted standard (horizontally) but to each their own. It looks fine vertically especially with the led arrangement but mine burned on one side, quite frustrating. The led is done via some fiber cables no way I've the skills or knowledge to pull a DYI on that. Base clock is not impressive either compared to some of the competition. I wanted an EVGA but I was a very early adopter of the 2080Ti and couldn't find one at the time. Cherry on the cake, coil whine is quite annoying, but when panel closed it's not that bad. That might be me though, I pushed that card quite hard to get some of the scores I got in the overclock sub. Also, it was their early batch.
