Disappointing because they offer 50.us off the board with chip purchase

The Microcenter I go to in Fairfax, Virginia stocks top end motherboards. It's where I got my Aorus Z390 Xtreme. Also where I got my old Z87 board - Gigabyte G1 Sniper 5

BTW, when I bought my board/CPU combo (i9-9900K + Z390 Xtreme) last year the discount was $30 dollars. Did they change this?

Thank you for the kind words. I've thus far gotten the Case, KB and CPU itself (bought that *at* MicroCenter of $30 off every other price I found online.

I'm slowly but surely going to set up that Photos album with the photos of the components as well as the build process. Still deciding if I want to do a video / series of videos on the build process also or not.

Yeah, If I had chosen a board they had in stock I could have gotten a discount on top of the $30 discounted price on the CPU. But I'm pretty hell-bent on having this exact board lol.

Ended up finding it online at a place out of California that had it priced a little more than I wanted to pay, but seeing as it was out of stock just about everywhere else (except eBay, where folks were asking >$1k USD) I got it. It should be arriving in the next day or two. Still paid about $150 less than PCPartsPicker had it listed for lol.

When I got the message in email, it was a rolling price - it depended upon which CPU and which mobo you chose. It was up to $50, IIRC - maybe up to $30 only. I'll find the email here in a bit.

Thinking about it now, I can't remember either I just know I got a discount for the combo

Anyway why that particular board? Just curious.

I wanted a top tier board that will last a long while, with good support, 3 M.2 on board, and damned good cooling. The MSI delivers - and then some.

MEG X570 GODLIKE | Motherboard | MSI Global

Several specs stood out for me:

    1. 3 M.2 PCIe Gen 4 x4 connected
    2. NICs by Killer (Gigabit + 2.5 G onboard, plus a 10G PCIe card)
    3. Xtreme Audio DAC: Isolated audio with ESS DAC, 2x audio processors & Nahimic to deliver the breathtaking sound quality with 384kHz/32-bit

Plus, when I was messing around with my older build, a P4 (Northwood family) CPU, I used an MSI - and OCd the ever loving dog*** out of it - I achieved over 20% OC on air that the mobo handled without reservation. I then went with eVGA twice - and both times they had stupid idiosyncrasies that I wanted to avoid. And since I went with AMD Ryzen, that automatically ruled out eVGA mobos anyway.

Not a lot to choose from for maxed (well, near-maxed) offerings in the X570 series, so, being nearly equal for top tier mobos, I pick MSI because of my previous good experience with them.

Time will tell if this ends up being a good decision or not....

    Hi,
Yeah buying 1k.us+ processors micro center was knocking off 50.00 on mother board combos
These 500.us chips yeah drops to 20-30.00 off.

I was really referring to ROG boards best I've seen then stock was a z490 hero but it sure isn't a apex but are about the same price or formula 500.00/ extreme 750.00+ so those are high end to me and they never have them.

Best I've seen them in the past have was a prime deluxe 4-500.00 board but not a ROG board by any means.

That actually mirrors why I went with my Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Xtreme. The board is said to be overkill and overbuilt but that also says it's built to last and can handle heat very well.

It's certainly the most expensive board I've even owned; I'm usually around $300, though I did pay $390 for my Gigabyte G1 Sniper 5, but this one topped $500+

I went with the Xtreme to handle my i9-9900K should I want to play overclocking again. No regrets, but I'm not sure I'd spend that much on a board again. That's me.

Anyway that's a nice board you have. Enjoy. And post some pics of the new build

I totally understand - this is, by far, the most I've spent on a complete build, ever. But I'm also the guy who uses PCs far longer than the average person....That helps justify a premium price, at least for me.

I'm typically on a 3-4 year cycle where I do a complete new build. Having just built this system though I intend to commit to that 3/4 year cycle

My last two builds (Z170 MB/6700K CPU and Z270 MB/7700K CPU) lasted about a year combined; though the Z270/7700K system is still up and running as my backup system.
