    Laptop overheated

    Hello hello peeps

So, today my laptop overheated. I wanted to test a game benchmark at max settings, it overheated and turned off.

How long should I wait until all the components will be at their lowest possible normal temperatures and the machine will be o-k to use again?

20 minutes should be fine and it might cool better being on as fan will run.

    If benchmark restarts kill it.

Your machine should be OK to run again, that is why it has thermal shut off. That said there is always the possibility of damage as it was driven to an extreme.

    Thanks Ken.

Are you aware of any way to run the fans at full speed for a small while?

Will 20 minutes actually get everything down to the coolest, as if I have not used it in over a day?

    How about 1 hour?

It was shut down either because of CPU or graphics. When power was removed they immediately started to cool. As I said when you turn on the electronics withing laptop will engage fan at appropriate level.

If you feel better at an hour that will also work.

If, and it is a big if, you damaged something because of the benchmarking cooling it is not going to fix. I doubt you damaged anything.

No I don't know how to make fans run at max. Some fancy desktops you have fan control options with BIOS.

Looks like you need more air under the laptop. That's why stands/mats/docks with fans exist.

Thank you for your message. Are you able to recommend, from your own personal experience, good brands / series'?

Well, even ones that have USB-powered fans, should do the job. Unfortunately, my cooling platform, has a USB hub that apparently causes Windows 10 to flip out during updating, especially feature updates!

I have bad news. I ran that game again but with the totally lowest settings (except for resolution and 2 times anti-aliasing, which is what I normally play it at, actually I normally play it at 8 times anti-aliasing).

Before long, my laptop shut down because of overheating. I think there is physical damage to my machine. I have played
this game for at least 50 hours on this machine, I would say. No problems before.

    What should I do

Depends on you and your comfort level in opening device up.

    What make model is it?

    Did you try cooling pad?

, with a deducated GPU. I am o-k with opening it up to take a look.

I have not bought a cooling pad yet. The point though, is that this game was never a problem until my PC shutdown from overheating for the first time - which happened when I tried benchmarking the game on absolutely highest settings.
