Just my new NVME Benchmarks (Samsung 980 Pro 500GB) only temp as wanting the Gigabyte AORUS Gen4 7000s 2TB NVMe Solid State Drive (PCI-Express 4.0 x4), next but need to mortgage my house to buy one, lol
Yeah, that's how I felt when i build my machine this past december. I got the 2TB WD SN850 PCIe Gen 4 and it was $450. I really wanted to populate both of my M2 slots, especially since my Asus Rog Strix X570-e makes me remove the video card, and the chipset cooling shroud to get to the M2 slots....but I couldn't justify the pricing to get 2 of them.

And honestly.....I feel almost 0 day to day difference between my machine and my wife's/son's machines where they are running the 1TB WD SN750 (PCIe Gen 3) versions of the drive. In benchmarks it's night and day, but real world use......I don't see enough to really justify that extra cost. I think I would have preferred 4TB of PCI Gen 3, versus the 2TB of PCI Gen 4 that I got.

Gen 4 in Gen 3 motherboard is good to make sure you have identical read & write speeds for that theoretical bottleneckless read/write ratio.

With the new 980 I can see the write is faster as seeing 2.5gb/s write speed were the Sabrent was 1.8gb/s, as when video editing I need to send to another nvme partition converting to .iso format & if I used Sata SSD for that it would take about 1 min to complete but with Gen4 nvme it takes about 5 seconds to complete so the speed we benchmark is deffo there if you know how to use it.

Here is hoping that a Gen5 nvme could be the drive to max my PCi 4:0 motherboard out to keep me up to speed for a further 5 years or more.
