ASUS z490 ROG Maximus XII Mother board & 10900k Overclocking Thread

    Hi,
Interesting platform a lot different from Skylake-X x299 platform for sure so I'm pretty much starting over

Ended up with a XII formula yes water block on the vrm's not really needed on this platform but it's
Really weird place for a third m.2 on the back of the board lol if you don't cut a hole in the back of your case you'll have to remove the board to access it

ASUS really went on the freak on oc'ing on z490 and early bios well as always are not very great
Really finicky is memory oc'ing x299 seemed nearly effortless

Got some V-F predictions of the chip and SP code for batch quality which my 10900k was at first SP 94 but dropped to 92 the next day lol thought I was in trouble if that happens everyday

    Hi,
    Couple of youtube videos
Only first 5 minutes or so and the rest is a boring stress test so skip a lot to the end.

Much shorter and to the point here

    Hi,
I was pretty disappointed in the default clocks on 10900k seeing the turbo is 5.1 I was thinking it would blow my poor old 7900x at 4.8 pretty easily = nope
Have to switch to all core to get any grunt out of 5.1 then it clearly killed my 7900x R20 score of 6428

    Hi,
Well finally got a response on why these 10900k's throttle so much over on z470 stuff thread on rog forum
    Hi,
Can anyone confirm 0403 or 0607 bios cpu core ratio = all core multiplier say 51 ... is totally broken and acts like auto
Idles at 51 but soon after stress hits it darn thing throttles like crazy just using R20
First run throttles down to 4.0 and if you loop R20 it gets worse down to 2.6 lol
This is pretty wild for all core setting

Only option I can use that clocks stay up to 51 or... is By core usage this does not throttle clocks down until the chore is done.
    Formula 0607 currently.
this has been talked about over and over again, TAU PL1 PL2 etc
    Code:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4th6YElNm5w
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ_AETO7Fn4
in short just enable MCE yourself, welcome to the default club, sites WANT default , you get default.
Not sure what the dude is talking about default blah... it's not default for ASUS MultiCore Enhancement [Enabled – Remove All limits] to be set,
It's on Auto like on every asus board I've ever seen and they don't act like this.
Once you switch to all core boom you're pretty much done after selecting a multiplier lol so yeah default club... okay

Either way yes enabling that one setting does change things
Max mhz and idle turns into 5.3 lol but wait it gets weird again once you hit stress on R20 guess what you now throttle to 4.9 lol
So now it acts like avx offset is set at 4
Better than before but still weird as hell and still comes short of 7900x @4.9 score of so it still takes all core 5.0 maybe or 5.1 definitely to exceed 7900x.

I was nearly ready to pack this z490 board up and return it to amazon
Memory bios is still very bad looks like asus is in cahoots with corsair loose timings 3600c18 18-22-22-42 for example than b-die 3600c16 16-16-16-36 tight timings.
and 4x8 kits struggle the most.

    Hi,
Did pack the formula up and sent back to amazon
Got an apex from newegg and saved 100.us in the process
z490 sure doesn't need water on the vrm's hasn't gone over 55c yet

How about making this thread more inclusive like past generation Asus motherboard threads that weren't specific to a processor? In any case I will probably post my 10700k stuff here.

    Good decision on the Apex.

    Hi,
You can post what ever oc/... images you want too
Which board are you going for ?

Apex is nice and saved 100.us at the same time, think newegg got some more 10900k's but heck micro center had a bunch a couple weeks ago finally sold all of them at 600.us instead of 540.us that I got from them long ago.
Apex also has way better m.2 design dimm 2 slot uses all pch not cpu or pci-e lanes
3rd m.2 does use pci-e lane and or maybe cpu can't remember :/

I think maybe it makes sense to start a MB thread where can dump info like BIOS updates, etc. I will do that.

I bought a Hero because I have a lot invested in 4 x 16 GB of memory and Apex only has 2 slots and cost mega and I am not into memory OC that much.
Delidded 10700K on air (NH-D15). Can do 5.1 GHz 24x7 with 1.3v under AVX loads, 5 GHz @1.23v under AVX loads, adaptive mode stable.
5.2 GHz would be beyond my cooling, though I will probably try it with hyper-threading disabled.

    Hi,
Hero is a ROG board same as topic but by all means make another thread if you want too.

Only bios worth a darn are beta bios 0606 of which I'm using.
