Right, and as I said, only one side of the NVME drive... not both sides.
Both side are heatsinked as the under side is fastened to the sides of the main finned heatsink so the bottom plate remain at same temp as top plate as the heat will be shunted to the top plate.

That configuration assumes the drive isn't being laid flat on a surface where the drive slides into place. Also that there's room on the top to handle a large heatsink. That's my point

Here's an example of what I'm saying. My NVMe drives sit under those covers....

BUT YES.... there are special designs the allow such things. OK.

No its a thin plate of aluminium which connects to the top piece which makes it the same thermal heatsinking properties.

    Attachment 282234

    Top heatsink it single sided.
    &
    Bottom one is double sided.
    .
For an add on sink I'd be good with a single sided one but I'm not so hot on the rubber band idea shown. Perhaps a double sided style - variant. The M.2 slot on the board I bought is between the cpu & 1st pcie 3.0 slot. I'm thinkin sticking with the H60 cooler gives me the advantage of no hot air off the cpu so secondary airflow becomes more important.

Just use the double sided m.2 heatsink as the thermal pad will insulate the pins/components on the underside (if it is not double sided or course) & will aid in cooling.
