    BIOS Configuration Guidance

    Greetings,

I have just built and am configuring a new machine.

    ASRock z390 PhantomGaming ITX/ac
    9900K
    32GB DDR4 3200 GSkill Memory
GTX1660 Super GPU on the way (currently haveGT1030)
    Seasonic 850 watt PSU
    Liquid Freezer II 240mm AIO

The machine will be used primarily for music production. There may be some minor video work. That's why I am upgrading the GPU. The modifications to the BIOS are listed below. I would like as much performance as I can get. However, stable and consistent operation, for hours at a time, is very important.

I realize that Windows configuration is a large part of this. I will follow the sensible configuration suggestions for music production. Primarily: set processor scheduling to background (anybody have a thought on this), minimize background and other processes, minimize startup items, cut back on eye candy, set power plan to minimize change of state of the system, etc. Here are the items I modified in the BIOS:

CPU all core multiplier = 49
    CPU cache multiplier = 45
    AVX offset = 1
RAM = XMP profile 1 (only profile available with this motherboard)
CPU core voltage offset = -40
LLC = Auto (this seems to keep the core voltage stable)
    RAM voltage = 1.35

I started out with a CPU voltage offset of -50 at 4900. This survived a 3 hour stability test, but went blue screen while watching a YouTube video . I then ran 4800 at -50 and 4900 at -40. I settled on 4900 at -40. I ran Aida64 stability test for 16 hours and Blender with the BMW render for 4 hours. The machine was stable, and the temps and voltages were fairly consistent.

I just ran another Aida test for 5 hours and the summary is included in the post FYI.

Are there any other items I should be looking at? Thanks in advance for your guidance and stay well,

    Graham

All I can offer is are references to sites that address those types of adjustments as I want stability more than speed and I prefer not taking a chance on killing my computer:

Only thing I can suggest is an AVX offset = 0. I imagine that transforms in music and video will use AVX.

    Thanks Berton and Geneo,

It would be great if we could get a list of software that uses AVX instructions. That's probably a stretch. Even better would be if the developer(s) would put that in their literature. The potential for AVX is one of the reasons I kept the frequency below 5GHz. Of course, at the end of the day, what does 100MHz mean. I'm not being smug, just curious.

I will scour Overclockers and see what I can see.

    Thanks again,
    Graham
