Check out my latest testing rig, I actually have a pair of them for testing out a handful of things on real hardware. I left my USB Macrium media and mouse next to it for size reference.
This baby has a Core i5, 16GB of RAM and 250GB m2 SSD in it. It This one happens to be running Win10 pro Insider release, with WSL 2 on it. I'm going to go run Cinebench against it and see what it gets.
It does reboot in 34 seconds

Ooh, and the results are in. It scored over 500.
Well, it managed to finish the test at least and stay under 40. 40w of power :)
It's an Intel NUC. NUC stands for Next Unit of computing.
You can buy these as kits. You typically buy the mobo, case and cpu all together, and then you add RAM, and SSD, and OS. You can also buy them preassembled with everything ready to go. They refer to those as mini PC's.
They come in 2 primary form factors, a small thin unit (that is what I am showing here). It has room just for the M2 SSD inside (NVMe's work too).
There is also a thicker model, that in additional the M2.SSD(nvme), you can also run a 2.5" SSD
It has mini display port out, mini HDMI out, 4 USB 3.0 ports, a 10/100/1000 ethernet jack, 802.11ac wireless, and a headphone jack.
They are kinda pricey. Usually for the core i5, it's around $400 for the barebones kit, and you still have to add the RAM, HDD and OS.
I have 4 of them, they are my favorite mouse of all time.
It's hilarious at work if somebody tries to use my computer, because they cannot navigate with my house. To me, it's always been easy. It's very much just like using a trackpad on a laptop. Point with your fingers and click with your thumb.
It also prevents a coworker from playing a prank on me if I ever leave my computer unlocked and step away from it. It's very rare that I would ever do that, but they are stuck when they try to use my house. And I have my touchpad disabled when the mouse is connected..so they have to deal with that too :)
Ahh... I thought that was a NUC but didn't take the "guess"
I suppose $400 isn't a bad deal for one of those. That said I've found no need for a NUC (yet).
Thanks. And as a side note, I was cleaning out my garage last year and found a brand new still in the box Logitech Trackball mouse. I know I bought it somewhere around 2000 and probably only used it once. Looks something like this....
I no longer use trackballs.
I don't like the trackballs where you roll the ball with your thumb, I only liked the microsoft based models where it's where your fingers are. I have been using these things since 2001. They are literally approaching 20 years old and I still use it as my primary input device on my desk at work. Like I said, I have 4 of them, not a single one has broken over the years.
Thats the one I used years ago from you pic Drew, its still in my file cabinet. I could even game with it
I've used that trackballs for gaming and general use, but eventually got away from them. I think the one I have is just a remnant from my trackball days.
Currently now using a Logitech MX Master 2S now. Along with my Logitech Craft keyboard. And though these aren't "gaming" items I've no issues with gaming either.
