    Ram Question

    I have 2 Gskill 8gb 3200mhz ram and 2 Gskill 16 gb 3200mhz Ram sticks also.. My question is can i use the different sizes together, Same brand and speed, I figured for dual channel to work properly i would have to alternate the sizes. I just want to make sure doing this isnt actually a performance loss.

    Put it in and try, might have to play with the timings though

    All the motherboards I've worked with that take DDR2, DDR3 or DDR4 modules with 4 or more slots have them alternating, marked on the board and different colors. Putting identical modules in slot 1 and 3 and/or 2 and 4 should work as long as the pairs match except for size, have used 2 x 4GB and 2 x 2GB for 12GB total. Setting the BIOS to use Dual-channel memory will help, some versions may automatically make that setting. I salvage memory modules from computers that are being thrown out and check with Crucial US | DRAM, Solid State Drive (SSD) & Memory Upgrades with make and model to ascertain what they can be used in, just did a Notebook with 2GB upgrading to 4GB that way.

    Mixing different sizes of RAM should be ok, even better if they are same manufacturer as in the image below on my system;

    The only real issue you may have is if the timings are different (not the Mhz value but the CAS etc), this could cause an issue with some motherboard/ CPU combos or prevent the RAM modules from running their XMP (or compatible) speeds. In theory the RAM will work but at the lowest speed of the mixed sticks.
