an 8-pin 12V connector can easily support 1500-2000W without the cables even getting warm.

EDIT: Oups sorry, make it half of that.
No, the 8-pin has 4 circuits that can support about 7 amps MAX each @ 12V. so that is 4x7x12 = 336 Watts.

    EDIT:

In fact they are specced for 150W: And use only 3 12V circuits (the remain 2 pins are ground).

All about the various PC power supply cables and connectors

Why don't they put 2x8pin, most modern and good PSUs have two of them. Even my old 660w has them, 2x 6+2.

So who makes a PSU with two 8 pin connectors, not being used by the motherboard?? I don't know of any.

They already use 2 8-pin. My 2070 Super does. That gives it 150+150+75 = 375W. Each 8-pin supplies 150W and the PCI-E motherboard connector can supply up to 75W.

So if yiou get close to 375W, you need more than 2 8-pin connectors

My Raidmax does. it's semi modular design.

My 750W Seasonic Ultra Prime Titanium has 6 x 8-pin PCI-E/CPU connectors. Of course it cannot supply 150W to each of those simultaneously. I am using 2 x8 to my GPU, and 2x8 to my CPU.
You need a PSU with at least enough wattage to cover the simultaneous use. I think generally most PSU above 750W do.

EDIT: My bad, my 750W has 5 CPU/PCI-E 8-pin. I am using 2 for my GPU and 2 for my CPU. The 850W and 1000W have 6.
